That's a great thread and was very much interesting to read. I loved your way of describing the whole progress of restoration with amazing set of pictures. Also, I appreciate the effort you'll have taken in bringing back the rare Convertible beauty to glory.

Years back in supply chain class, our professor had assigned us a case study on counterfeit products and their supply chain. One of the readings, a WSJ article said one could find (totaled) Ferrari cars restored with Subaru engines in South East Asia (Thailand or Indonesia, can't remember). I wondered if there could be a legit market for such cars. This thread makes me wonder if there could be a market for making old cars from CAD drawings with new manufacturing processes and slapping an engine/drivetrain of choice there. It would never reach scale, but if one could make this car with a decent electric motor or a popular engine like Maruti/Hyundai/Creta 1.4/1.5 l for under 25 lakhs, I'd buy it :-)

Bit of a grey area, I have asked the workshop for an explanation on this and will update in due course.

There are different techniques. Although it might be, technically, possible to weld, that introduces a lot of heat into the block. Which can create all sorts of problems, warping etc.

A well proven technique is so called “metal stitching”. There are several companies doing this as a service and or providing the materials:

Search for metal stitching on youtube and you will find many video’s about engine block repair. Also, by DIY mechanics using this technique.

Thanks for your quoting my earlier post on this car I was alerted to this thread on a detailed restoration of a special car.

On the method suggested by Jeroen - here's one reference to a company in Calcutta. I am sure our vintage experts in Calcutta knows further details

More progress, an all new rumble seat has been fabricated.

The engine block is back from repair, the workshop tells me that the crack was small and easily repaired, I have asked for details and if they are going to do any tests on it to check.

It will be good to know how they tackled that issue

The resto job is coming out really well, from the pics. I am sure they would have done a good job with the engine as well.

I have been told that crack was minor and brass was used to repair it, its their local method and they say many blocks have been repaired this way.
