Phew, this is scary. This is one reason I stay away from trucks carrying any kind of load and specially the ones that protrude or are overloaded.

The biggest contributor to such accidents are our law and governance. Just look at the way the truck is packed to the rim and how did the traffic cops ignore this? We have to seriously have to re look at our traffic laws and enforce by force!

The way the pipe is precariously perched on the truck is asking for more disaster! It could roll off in any direction and hurt someone or damage some more vehicles. Whenever I see such trucks carrying pipes (in a dangerous manner); I always wondered what would happen if the steel cables holding the pipes breaks, and the pipes roll off?

This reminds me of an accident I saw on Outer Ring road near HSR layout a few years back. Similar lorry carrying pipes had applied a sudden break I am guessing. The pipes had moved forward, and crushed the entire cabin of the lorry. Hopefully the driver and cleaner escaped with minor injuries only.
Anyone remember this?

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Slightly OT, but an accident averted. I was travelling with my family on 28th October from Delhi to Ambala. Around 10 pm just before Sonepat, a Scorpio in front of me swerved to the left to avoid something. It was too late for me and I saw something like a plastic bottle lying on the road. I tried to avoid it, but consequently ended up going over it and bang, had a blowout. Luckily I was not doing very high speeds, must have been at about 85-90 km/h and there was no traffic parallel to me. I was able to bring it under control and park on the side. Within minutes, a couple of more cars suffered the same fate. Changed the tire and continued on. Stopped at a dhaba who had a tirewala and to my astonishment the tire had a 2-3 inch cut on the side wall. Now it is not easy to do this to a Yokohama Geolander, these are tough tires that I can vouch for from my rally usage. Scouted for the nearest highway patrol and gave them the info of the location and asked them to check it out before some poor soul ends up crashing himself. Interestingly it was 28th of Sep when my swift met with an accident, pictures are on this thread. Need some divine intervention here to break the 28th jinx.

2 Killed, 2 hurt in Road mishap in Bopal , Ahmedabad

Valuable human lives lost in a freak accident involving an Accent and Dezire, which incidentally belongs to a BHPian from Ahmedabad. Its rumored that the Assent was doing triple digit speeds on the Gujarati New Years day when roads are practically empty. The car driven by the 21 year lost control in trying to save a pig , jumped the median and hit the Dezire coming from the opposite direction. The driver and his 50 year old mother perished in the crash, the driver of the Dezire escaped with broken bones in the ankle. Unfortunately both the front passengers of the Assent were not belted and paid the ultimate penalty. RIP poor souls

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

This happened about a month ago, somewhere between Thiruthani and Chennai.

Repair cost(14 lakh) exceeded IDV, so a total loss. Driver dozed off, the passengers escaped with minor injuries.

The Fortuner does not look like a write off to me,the shell and even the engine seem to be intact.

Last edited by Rehaan : 7th November 2013 at 17:06. Reason: TFort = Fortuner. Please avoid shortforms like this (as per our latest rule). Thanks.

Mercedes Crash. Read about the same in today's newspaper.

Quote:
According to police sources, the accused - identified as Parnasree residents Rohit Shah and Debanjan Kundu - were returning home from central Kolkata in a Mercedes.
"We were at the Alipore police station around midnight when a passerby came running to us saying that a car was being driven at a very high speed. Moments later, we heard the sound of a screech, followed by a crash. Two of our patrol officers - sub-inspectors P K Chakraborty and Raja Saha - who were closest to the spot responded to the call at 12.10am," said a divisional officer.

A 30-year-old woman was killed in Worli in a car accident Tuesday night. Police arrested a 22-year-old law student Wednesday in connection with the case. Two others suffered injuries in the accident.

According to Worli police, the accused has been identified as Shaan Kalnani, a resident of Altamount Road. Police said Kalnani was driving towards Worli on Annie Besant Road when he allegedly rammed into another car coming from the opposite direction. There were three occupants in the other car

"The impact of the collision was so severe that the cars got entangled. The fire brigade had to be called to help separate the two cars.

Mathrubhumi is reporting a horrible accident on the Thrissur-Kuttippuram road near Peramangalam. A car going towards Thrissur hit the divider, lost control and hit a car coming the other way (going to Tirur). The second car had a businessman, his wife, daughter-in-law, two grandchildren and his driver - of which three died. The first car's sole occupant, a 17-year old plus-two student also died.

I have witnessed a relative's Innova accident and the repair bill.

The innova crashed into a railing ; at the accident spot it was examined that the bonnet, bumper, headlight(1), AC+coolant leak, front chassis plate, and coolant fan(one fin), one bonnet side panel has to be worked upon.

Engine started and ran fine(the service centre also said the same) but after a week they quoted an awful 2.7 lakh, out of which 70k is to be given from the pocket.

So i can't help but believe the 14 lakh repair bill for the Fortuner.
