In the first set of #SaferCarsForIndia results for 2018, Global NCAP has released the result of the crash tests conducted on the recently launched Tata Nexon.

Quote:

The Nexon, which is sold in its standard version with frontal double airbags, frontal double pretensioners, ABS brakes and ISOFIX anchorages, achieved a strong result of four stars for adult occupant protection and three stars for child occupant protection.

David Ward, Secretary General of Global NCAP :

Quote:

The 4 stars awarded to the Tata Nexon represent a very strong result from a major Indian car manufacturer. This impressive safety performance is comfortably above the new crash test standards applied in India to new models since October 2017. It is very encouraging to see Tata aiming high for safety and a great example for others to follow. The race is clearly on for India’s first 5 star car

Good show from TATA Motors. clap:

TATA had achieved a four star result earlier with the Zest as well. This puts Nexon as a tested safe option along with the likes of Etios and Polo.

Toyota, VW and TATA are the safer choices for those worried about crash structure. Next in line seems to be Ford and Honda.

Others are still in the untested territory. Some known to be tested just unsafe. :Frustrati

Quite commendable indeed! :thumbs up
I believe it can get even better if Tata takes the lead and make ESP and side/curtain airbags standard across its model range; if a homegrown manufacturer starts the trend others will soon follow the trend.

Given the PR disaster of Mahindra's Airbag not deploying gaining popularity, this comes probably at the right time for the TATA. Would be interesting to see how the Hexa scores. I am confident that it would also be similarly good if not better.

Time for Mahindra to put its XUV and other cars through this test to atleast minimize the PR damage. Especially, interesting would be to see the outcome of the XUV from the 2013/2014 lot being subjected to a side-pole impact test (most likely similar to the Arvind's son's XUV accident) to see whether the side airbags deploy. If Mahindra's official statement is true, then they should (without retuning/fiddling with the car) put their vehicles through this NCAP/Euro NCAP/Global NCAP test to prove their claims.

Impressive and encouraging from Tata. This should put an end to many who are apprehensive about the new line up of cars from the Tata stable.

Having said this, I am personally not very confident about how their flagship model - Hexa will fare in an NCAP. Reason: I was a part of customer interaction meet with top guys from technical and marketing teams sometime last year. While most of the queries were handled nicely; one question was left unanswered - the safety numbers. The head of Marketing Mr.Vivek Srivatsa blatantly told that crash test ratings are "internal" data and cannot be disclosed.

Kudos to Tata for staying away from just monetary gain and rather giving a part of its profit in exchange for better passenger safety. This news just made this already amazing vehicle that much more praiseworthy. Maruti and Hyundai, you are up next!

This speaks a lot!

Very few cars on our Indian roads has achieved this ratings .
Some cars with 6 / 7 airbags have managed rating which this car has managed with only 2.
I think Toyota is only other equvivalent safe car manufacturer in India now.

Congratulations team Tata!!

4 stars for adults and 3 stars for child occupants. I think the child occupants would be impacted more by absence of side and curtain airbags. Otherwise the ratings would be even better overall for all occupants.
What ratings did the Ecosport (6 airbag version) score?

I hope that with the Harrier, Tata manages to acheive the 5 star rating in terms of safety.

Unlike Zest, Nexon bodyshell gets a thumbs up, which is good. I couldn't quite understand the thigh protection (rated marginal) part. Could someone explain?

I did notice, this test is performed at 64 kmph, not 56 kmph as it used to be.

Strangely I don't see Nexon listed in the Global NCAP results page yet. Why is that?

Good job, Tata.

I hope more of sold-in-India cars get tested to put things into perspective from a safety point of view. An ideal day is when customers ask the SA, "how many stars in NCAP" rather than "how much is the FE". If this isn't giving Maruti a headache, something is seriously wrong with our market!

This thread comes Just-In-Time. Was tottering at the finish line before confirming an order for a Nexon Petrol AMT. I'll place the order with greater confidence now. :)

The body structure was mentioned as capable of withstanding further loads, so achieving 5 star rating shouldn't be that difficult.

Congratulations team Tata!!

Tata has 2 products - zest & now nexon. The other 2 are etios and polo.

Nikhil

The standard version of the India made Tata Nexon, sold with 2 airbags scored 4 stars in Adult protection and 3 stars for Child protection in the crash test conducted by Global NCAP.

The structure too was found to be 'Stable' based on the 64km/h off set deformable barrier crash test conducted by the agency.

Well done Tata. :thumbs up
