The owner chose the wrong “VENUE” to park his Venue

Good luck with convincing the insurance company that this incident was not due to negligence on part of the owner/housing society.

Just shudder on the thought what if the owner or his family were in the car and he couldn’t get everyone out in time

Re: Hyundai Venue sinks into a hole as road caves in | Police say it was a water well

There are many disused wells that have been filled / covered all over the world. In Pune where I reside a friend got a disused well covered. He had to take permission from PMC to close it, then it was filled with rubble and rocks and only after that a slab to cover it.
In this case there was no filling, just an slab covering the well keeping the well under it intact.

It's very important to the check the venue before parking, lest you get a sinking feeling later.

Silver lining, convincing insurance should be easy.

Folks making fun of this incident must remember that the car would have costed more than a million for the unfortunate owner. Now let that sink in!

Or you may try to look it at this way that the owner learnt a much more valuable lesson that is in Life you can't have stability if you build, stand or park something on shaky grounds. And he didn't learn this by loosing his own life or that of his family members, which would have been more valuable and can never be compared in monetary terms.

The well was definitely overflowing with rain water getting accumulated and hence the ground above gave away finally. You can see they pumped out the water in the pictures where they are recovering the car.

I particularly liked a comment which went like "car commits suicide, not being able to cope with the rising cost of fuel"

Did the person even know that there was a well beneath where he parked? I think we're assuming that he did.

This can happen to anyone. A lot of parking slots in the city which are covered with concrete slabs have huge pits, cable laying openings, unused old drainages, clogged drainages.

It is necessary for all drivers to do a quick check on the parking location before and after parking.
I have seen cars being parked in a slope/ above drain channels with one wheel, not in contact with the ground and just the edge of the tyre in contact. These could be avoided by just checking/ walking around the car post parking.

Re: Hyundai Venue sinks into a hole as road caves in | Police say it was a water well

All those meme makers and troll fanatics, please do keep in mind that after all

1. No owner of a car will do this in purpose. He/She would not have come to know what lies under until this mishap occurred.

2. Today its that unfortunate person, tomorrow it can be any of us. Don't be over-confident that you know everything what's going on or lies under your feet. It doesn't have to happen in just a city. It can even happen when you are on a vacation in some Hilly areas and suddenly a landslide happens.

3. The idea of creating a thread should be to help others, bring in some information or tips which might help the unfortunate owner wrt
a) Insurance claim
b) What next since the vehicle has been submerged in water and can it be brought back to life or should it be discarded similar to flood effected vehicles.
c) Any extra tips to be considered while dealing with such vehicles and service centers who are mostly interested in milking customers when an opportunity arrives.

Lets not rub salt into already wounded person and their family.
Lets not be sadistic.
Let sense prevail !!!

Thanks!!!

Re: Hyundai Venue sinks into a hole as road caves in | Police say it was a water well

The culpability of this incident should nearly fully be on the builder/contractor who has constructed the sump and covered it with some substandard material. Knowing fully well that the space, at a premium in the metro will be utilised for parking purposes, structural props including steel girders of appropriate sizes needed to have been used for the sump cover.

Re: Hyundai Venue sinks into a hole as road caves in | Police say it was a water well

My eyes popped out of my head when i saw this... not because it was a Lambo, but because of how eerily similar it was to the Venue incident (ie. the WagonR - including the item on the dashboard, the pavement, the wall ahead of it, etc).

Took me a few seconds to realise it was computer generated:
