My dad says the same. "Just wash the rear windshield when it is too dirty." While my mother mockingly said cars with operating rear wipers look like puppies wagging tails.

Though I have picked up from my dad and use the ORVMs more than the IRVM (he is used to pickups/vans and trucks), after a spate of rear enders where bikers who were too close end up hitting when we brake hard, I had started to instinctively look at the IRVMs for a split second when I had to brake hard. Also given my car cleaning frequency, the rear windshield would be dirty especially in the monsoon. Then again, in most modern crossovers you can't really see much through the rear windshield. So...

The only positive of a dirty windshield, is when some idiots tailgate with their hi-beams on, you don't have to constantly toggle the anti-glare lever.

Same happened with tigor as well

Headress for the rear seats which are critical in case of rear-ending is omitted by Maruti in lower variants. Fog lamps are omitted by most of the manufacturers in lower variants too. While not an omission on variants, 20L+ cars, like XUV700 not having three point seatbelt for middle passenger is ridiculous too.

Hyundai actually started this trend. The original i10 had the rear wiper on the Magna, Sportz and Asta variants. With the facelift it was deleted on the Magna (that's the reason I bought the Sportz). With the Grand i10 it was only available on the Asta. I think the Nios get's it only on the Asta (O). For the next generation they may have to launch and Asta (O+) so they can delete it on the Asta (O).
Maruti has been better that way. The Baleno used to get it on the Delta, Zeta and Alpha.
It's high time the government made it mandatory.

True!! We do feel the need of it in our car. Company says that we did so to accomodate the ISOFIX mounts and the rear armrest.
(Ours is an XUV700 AX7L P AT)

Note - This is my first post on TeamBHP!!!

As far as I remember, our 2018 XUV500 had 3 point seatbelts for the rear occupants, and it did have an armrest
Why is Mahindra doing this now?
Are they also going to delete features from the Scorpio-N at a later stage?
Also, Mahindra has removed the rear parking sensor from the MX variant and the rear defogger from the AX3 variant of the XUV700
Didn't it become a rule that from 1st October 2019, all vehicle should have reverse parking sensors?
I've also seen manufacturers reducing the number of sensors from 4 to 2 for some models.

Re: Essential safety features deleted by OEMs

IMHO one very important thing which should be a safety feature to be added in all Indian Cars is "Headlight Dimmer" or "Auto Dipper" system.

We all in some way or the other have faced the Menace of High Beam blinding us on the road.

If i remember it right this technology in its primitive way was there in 1960 in US in GM cars, however somehow it has not been developed or maybe went out of fashion. (Someone having technical expertise can enlighten on this, as I am writing based on my limited knowledge)

I think this is most important feature we should have on any moving 4 wheeler here in India.

Re: Essential safety features deleted by OEMs

Chevrolet Beat. When they launched this car in India the initial lot (of unknown number of cars) came as CKD units. My friend had an opportunity to buy one and is still using it.
I have seen these cars are much heavier. Closing the door with a solid Thud which is not expected from a small car.
Once Chevrolet started manufacturing in India they shaved off 200 kg. Definitely the later cars feel flimsy.
Secondly the initial Duster had their headlights skewed right because the car is designed in Europe and they drive on the right side of the road. The laws over there require the headlights to be skewed away from the incoming traffic, which is natural right to them. Imagine what. They manufactured the same Duster in India and failed to change the direction of skewed lights. Making them overly dangerous as skewing right on Indian roads is blinding the incoming vehicles directly.
