Casualties of ADAS in Indian conditions especially in NCR. Near ITO a car in the next lane was coming too close and ADAS decided to apply brakes, Causing the car behind to tail-end the Tuscon.
We haven't even got the mats yet, so not sure if the broken parts will be available at the dealership.

I still don't have a 'trust' in these ADAS systems, be it of any manufacturer. For me it feels like two drivers driving the same car at the same time, with both having complete control of the car at all time. After using it for a decade, I am unable to trust even my car remote key for that matter. I always have this doubt 'is the car actually locked, let me press the lock button on the key one more time. Let me pull the handle once, oh it's locked'. Never had this doubt, when I had to manually lock the car using key. I hope majority here also would be having the same 'trust issue' with your car remote key, but I am not sure if you have the same 'trust issue' with ADAS systems that too in India.
The big question here is, "what explanation was given to the driver of the car who hit you from behind"? "I did not do it Raju lol:(3 idiots fame dialogue)". No hard feelings please, just a casual ask.

That's unfortunate, man! IMO, it is best to keep ADAS completely switched off, especially in the city. It is still a 'nice to have' but not a 'must have' feature in our conditions.
It is simply not possible to perfect ADAS in a chaotic scenario like ours. I wonder how confused the computers must get with all the complex algrotihms. It is definitely the toughest of the tests they will ever be subjected to. :Frustrati

Sorry to note this. With ADAS being new to the car, environment and driver, i have made ADAS as a warning only feature. ADAS cannot replace a driver intuition in my humble opinion. The 360 cameras usually come in handy in heavy traffic situation better than ADAS. Please do share the repair capabilities and parts availability with HSC.
Best regards,
M
Thanks for sharing, abtyagi! Moving your post out to a new thread so as to warn others. A new thread means 100X the views & 100X the visibility in search engines, including Google. Will add to homepage over the weekend :thumbs up.
This deserves its own discussion because ADAS is best for developed countries with "ideal" driving conditions. Whenever I sit in a high-end car, I usually switch off all driver assistance systems first. Problem with many brands (including Mercedes) is that, they automatically re-activate after restarting the car.
Spent a few days with the EQS and in one of the drives, I missed switching off the driver assistance system. At the Bandra-Mahim Causeway signal, the car
suddenly slammed on the brakes, leaving all of us in shock :Shockked:. We were 5 onboard and all were buckled up tight, so no injury. Now, a couple of feet away was a pedestrian and (on another side of the car) an autorickshaw. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out which one made the car brake so damn hard. Manufacturers should realise this is not Europe or USA; a biker being 3 feet from you is an everyday occurrence (hell, many times they zoom past at a 1-foot distance). Luckily, the vehicle behind wasn't close, else I'd have been rear-ended. God help the EQS if it was a wheezy 15-year old Bolero with a crash guard & bald tyres behind. For that matter, 99.99% of the cars on our roads won't match the EQS' braking ability and inevitably rear-end it.
Post this incident, before I could even start the car, my family told me "switch off the driver assistance systems". This was literally the first thing they were telling me upon sitting in the car!
@ BHPians, if you should spot any good post in an existing thread that deserves its own new thread, please report the post and we'll move it out for greater visibility.
Thank you!
I generally get annoyed and turn off the parking sensors which beep when you are at crawling speeds and bikes/ autos get too close.
I cant imagine allowing a software to brake on its own in such a scenario.
I would love to have ADAS in my next car, but it SHOULD be opt in and not always on or opt out.

True in our traffic conditions ADAS behaviour will be unpredictable, for others.
I will make a list of all these ADAS equipped vehicles sold and watch out for them on the road and keep a safe distance between my radiator and its tail light or overtake and be gone away from the paranoid adas driver. Because, how will others know if its backseat driving or is in the driving seat?
You guys are talking ADAS, I am enjoying a renewed sense of freedom and control using a manual Tiago in city over the AT Creta. Sounds counterintuitive, but there is something about the 2nd and 3rd gear that you can manipulate in the city traffic that you simply cant using the AT.
Ouch. A brand new car without even mats and you probably had to spend extra for the ADAS. :unhappy
The only ADAS function that I feel is usable is the adaptive cruise control. Makes sense for India, where the normal cruise control can't be activated for even 5mins in most highways.
Not really ADAS, but had a taste of this in the 3rd gen Octavia L&K(FL). A couple of times, when I had to do a quick 3 point u-turn, the vehicle would suddenly stop with a loud grinding noise. Hada mini heart attack each time as I thought I hit something or the bumper was groudned. Once it occured when I tried to reverse up a steep slope, but this time I noticed the MID flashing '
Manoeuvre braking'. Tried to replicate it, but didn't trigger as the speed was slow. Later read up that it works only if the speed is higher/ pedal work is fast. Went to vehicle settings and switched it OFF. The camera and 360° sensors are more than enough, thank you.

Read somewhere that this legal aspect was what stopped Merc from developing autonomous driving which it had up and running in the 80s itself.
This is scary. It would be even more dangerous on highways if the vehicle following you hasn't kept a bigger gap with higher speeds
These features dont work unless all vehicles have these features. Such cases are more common in our conditions with vehicles close to each other (how many times we see cars so close that they close the rear view mirrors to pass rl:)
But they can happen anywhere in the world. I have been rear ended 3 times in US even without ADAS at traffic lights because of non-attentive drivers :Frustrati
Takes the fun away if you have to remember to turn the features off now and then.
Before we start bashing ADAS, lets understand, it’s basically built for civilized driving on well-marked roads. Unfortunately, our fellow countryman tend to ask - 'Civilized driving, kilo kithne ka hai ?' :Frustrati.
My cars proximity beeper goes into overdrive on daily commute. There is nothing we can do here unless people start respecting road rules. The one thing that would be reasonable to expect is to have an option to turn it off in city driving conditions and have full control over the car and use the ADAS for highway driving conditions. And when I say use the ADAS for highway, it’s not meant to be used like this moron who thinks his XUV700 is a Tesla!

Exactly why ADAS has only marketing value in India and honestly no practical value. ACC is the only thing that I see a use case for considering our highways and expressways are getting better now.
I recently drove about 1400 km in Germany in a rental Skoda Scala with all the Level 2 ADAS functionality and it worked so well there because traffic is organised. Things like lane keep assist and ACC were such a boon on the autobahns. I would never keep ADAS functionality on in India as this thread is a live example of the implications !
Time for a new kind of warning board on the back of these cars?

Ouch! Reallty feel for the OP. Hope the car gets fixed like new soon!
This is precisely why it makes absolutely no sense to shell out the extra dough for these features.
Apart from bragging rights via tacky badges one gets nothing in return for the outlay. Nothing of tangible value, that is.
Save the money, get that AT/better engine/ AWD instead with a lower variant.

Sorry to say but I don't understand this rant! Is ADAS a tool to rectify the driving style and conditions of Indians? Every manufacturer knows that Indian driving conditions are not ideal. Why are they offered then in such countries then?
Also, If ADAS was indeed offered, they should make that feature in OFF mode by default. If you want to use it, it should be switched ON.
