Slavia & Virtus score 5 stars in GNCAP | Maruti Alto K10 gets 2 stars, Wagon R just 1

GNCAP has released its latest reports with crash testing the Skoda/VW Slavia/Virtus and Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and WagonR.

Slavia/Virtus score an impressive 5 star rating whereas Alto K10 scores 2 and Wagon R just 1.

Slavia/Virtus

Alto K10

Wagon R.

A commendable job by Skoda/VW with their new launches scoring 5 Star rating under the new GNCAP tests for adults as well as child.

Maruti Alto K10 scores better than the Wagon R with 2 stars for the Alto and 1 for the Wagon R. Wagon R fails miserably in child protection with scoring 0 (3.40/49 points!).

Would have been great had GNCAP tested the Grand Vitara or Hyryder as well as the new Baleno and Brezza.

VW Virtus and Skoda Slavia score 5-star in GNCAP tests

The VAG 2.0 sedans - VW Virtus and Skoda Slavia - have become the first vehicles to score 5-star in both adult protection as well as child occupant protection under the Global NCAP’s updated crash test protocols, which include assessments of frontal and side impact protection for all tested models as well as Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and pedestrian protection. Side impact pole protection assessments are also required for vehicles scoring the highest star ratings.

re: Slavia & Virtus score 5 stars in GNCAP | Maruti Alto K10 & Wagon R fare poorly

VW-Skoda have done an impeccable job with the 2.0 cars! Also surprised how the K10 managed to score a higher score and Stable bodyshell rating when even the higher segment Swift and WagonR scored lower with an Unstable bodyshell rating!

That said, its surprising how GNCAP is still ignoring the GV, Brezza and Baleno. Almost all Maruti hatchbacks have been tested twice except the Baleno which isn't tested even once! What's wrong NCAP?

Finally that should answer some armchair experts who doubted that India 2.0 cars might have been compromised on safety as well. All it takes is some ADAS to keep up the high ratings. What's impressive is that the A pillar didn't even flex a bit out of its position and the doors were intact.

The more I see such ratings, more I am convinced, the sales are inversely proportional to safety ratings! Will buy a car with sunroof or Bose audio than one with a good safety rating.

To be honest, not surprised. Congrats to VW and Skoda for scoring 5 stars . Wagon R's score went down to 1 in the new protocols of G NCAP. Heck! Alto scored more than a Wagon R. The same Wagon R is sold at 8.30 lakhs on road in BLR :(.

Re: Skoda Slavia Review

Slavia becomes the safest sedan in the segment until others send their cars for NCAP test. So good to see this, it was expected that being based on the Kushaq platform, it will be safe but finally seeing the actual results made me .

As said previously in other posts, every manufacturer has to compromise on something or other to stay competitive in pricing. And glad that VAG did not compromise a bit on their USPs - Engine, ride and handling and safety. Such an impressive performance.
Going by the past performance of Hyundai, I have no confidence on the safety rating of new Verna too. Now this is a clear USP of VAG over Hyundai along with the fun to drive and handling.

Maruti’s Heartech platform will go down in history as the tinniest, most unsafe platform ever.

A remarkable achievement by Skoda-VW, although this was expected after the Kushaq and Taigun results.

They may have slightly inferior plastics and lesser features compared to the competition, but the 2.0 cars deliver what matters the most — safety, build quality, driving dynamics and arguably the best powertrains.

Re: VW Virtus and Skoda Slavia score 5-star in GNCAP tests

Great to hear and congratulation to the VW group for maintaining the standard.

To GNCAP, neither this nor Maruti's two results add anything new to our knowledge, both were on the expected line.

It would have been nice to know the performance of new vehicles e.g. - Grand Vitara, Hyryder, Harrier, new City etc.

Hopefully, we will get to see them all in the near future.

Re: VW Virtus and Skoda Slavia score 5-star in GNCAP tests

Hearty congratulations to Skoda\Vw group. Though this is pretty much expected from Skoda\VW cars, looks like they've timed it well to make sure results come out after new Verna's launch(?).

Also, hope VW group spend money on advertising this wonderful result and benefit as much as they can. Afaik, I think VW/Skoda cars are the only non-Indian manufacturers that makes 5 star NCAP cars.

Wowww…with all the talks about build quality degrading in VW 2.0, this is a great news for all the buyers of these cars.

Hats off to VW, even though this was a given after Kushaq/Taigun’s 5 star rating.

And congratulations to all the owners.

Cheers

Believe it or not, the Alto's passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal impact. If it had ESC it would have scored 3 stars, and in fact its score (21.67)is a fraction of a point away from 4 (22).

I am quite hopeful of the Glanza, Hyryder and Taisor (not the Marutis because unless they cooperate with Global NCAP for the additional pedestrian/ESC/pole tests it will mean squat).

Very surprised GNCAP have exhausted 100% of their own 2022 funds on Marutis. Would certainly have liked a more diverse mix - like the Citroën C3 which is just as badly equipped if not worse. Am also looking forward to the new i10. Interestingly, all the sub-Nexon Tatas will also be stuck at 2 stars with the new protocols.

There are a couple of discrepancies, eg. rear pretensioners for the Slavia (I think the Škoda brochure is wrong here) and the Wagon R's side impact score which doesn't add up with the pictogram.

I am unpleasantly surprised with the level of pedal intrusion in the Slavia. It is as much as a Mobilio/Seltos/Carens. Also wouldv'e liked nothing short of a green head in the side impact.
