Tata Harrier & Safari receive first-ever Bharat-NCAP 5-star rating

Bharat NCAP has published its first ever safety ratings for India with the Tata Safari and Harrier repeating their solid performance at GNCAP.

The results are similar to those published by Global NCAP except for slightly higher compression to the driver’s ribs in the frontal offset test and lower compression in the side pole impact test.

Bharat NCAP hasn’t provided comments indicating any modifiers or published a press release.

Re: Tata Safari and Harrier earn first Bharat NCAP five-star ratings

Kudos to Tata!

Something just caught my eye - I don't see curtain air bags extending to the third row. Isn't that an addition on the 2023 Facelift?

Re: Tata Harrier/Safari secure 5 star rating in BNCAP tests

Interesting that the Harrier/Safari's score (as a percentage of the maximum possible score) is lower in BNCAP than GNCAP.

Would love for the experts to chime in and explain if indeed BNCAP tests are therefore a tougher test after all!

More from the event:

Minister:

Quote:
“Bharat-NCAP is India’s independent, Atmanirbhar voice on vehicle safety. It is benchmarked to the best-in-class global standards and the Bharat-NCAP vehicle rating system is designed to advance road safety and vehicle safety standards beyond mandatory regulations. I’m delighted that the first ever vehicles being certified today with the highest achievable 5-star rating, are both from Tata Motors. I congratulate them on award of this coveted certification with the highest possible ratings and for continuing to enrich their legacy of introducing the safest vehicles on Indian roads.”

Expected news. Good job Tata, and Mahindra will follow suit. Curious as to know the list of first batch of cars tested by Bharat NCAP.

I am also curious as to how much better Marutis would fair in BNCAP vs GNCAP

Well, that's as per expectations. As Prassana said, I'm pretty curious to see Maruti's results. That would give us an idea how credible Bharat NCAP is. Looking forward eagerly.

Hi, I am very much interested to know BHARAT NCAP result of 2023 KIA Seltos and upcoming KIA Sonet. I am hopeful that these two will get 5 Star rating like Verna (at Global NCAP).

I will not be surprised if Suzukis and Korean twins pass the Bharat NCAP with flying colours, or at least 4 stars. The rationale behind this is that everyone's pondering. It would be really interesting to see how the zero starts scored cars fare in Bharat NCAP, E-spresso, for instance. Intriguing times ahead!

That was expected of Tata harrier/Safari the vehicles are good in safety standards! it remains to be seen how they handle maruti and hyundai's pressure. If they award a 0 or 1 star to the "existing" products of these brand that will give us genuineness of this agency.

While this is fantastic news, and expected - I wonder why. Both these vehicles were already rated by GNCAP.

Why not pick unrated models, or even facelifts of rated models? Isn't this a waste of taxpayer money, reiterating the GNCAP rating - when BNCAP itself is based on GNCAP?

Apologies but why and how is it a waste of taxpayer's money when the BNCAP relies on manufacturer requesting their vehicle for evaluation and sponsoring the vehicle? Its a voluntary certification process, not like GNCAP or xNCAPs that could (if they want to do so) buy cars themselves from the open market.

Please correct me if I'm wrong - the vehicle is sponsored by the manufacturer, but what about the test infrastructure, equipment, dummies and barriers that will need replacement after each test, salaries for personnel involved, etc.?

If that too is sponsored, then the tests are pointless/ paid for. If they are not, then it's our tax money - call it IT or road tax or GST

Re: Tata Harrier & Safari receive first-ever Bharat-NCAP 5-star rating

Shouldn't BNCAP test the "BASE Model" ? the model here in test is Adventure model, which is almost top end.
As far as I remember the car has to be base model as per specifications of BNCAP or GNCAP.
Did this change in between, if not this crash test is invalid.
