Re: Front Blind Zone Crashes - Risk Reduction Strategies

My son being 2 yrs old, i stopped watching after 3 incidents. It was gut-wrenching.

For folks who have older cars, cars that don't come with any front collision avoidance systems, what are our options (in open market) if we wish to diminish the blind spot right infront of our car's bonnet?

Thank you for sharing. Right when you think that you have seen enough posts about how to avoid a collision, here is something we never knew we needed.

Reading through such informative posts on T-BHP definitely makes be a better driver.

Re: Front Blind Zone Crashes - Risk Reduction Strategies

Thank you for the efforts for this informative post.

Have seen this in heavy traffic of Mumbai, as the two wheeler drivers have the habit to use the left side of the road during traffic, they will pass the heavy trucks, buses from the left side without knowing the blind spot of heavy vehicles. This is where the accident happens.

Big convex blind spot mirrors are fitted in our society near the identified blind spot areas, for safety reasons even there is speed limit set in our society to avoid accidents as children’s play in the garden area.

Re: Front Blind Zone Crashes - Risk Reduction Strategies

Thanks for this extremely informative post. There's one practice that I always follow and think it might help in such situations.
While moving the car out of the parking spot, I roll down the driver side window completely and the passenger side window at least partially. I never switch on music till I hit a straight road.
This allows for any sounds to be heard better. This also allows for fresh air to come in while AC is switched on eventually.

Re: Front Blind Zone Crashes - Risk Reduction Strategies

Informative post. Could be a life saver if drivers are conscious of the risk of blind spots. Few precautions I take are as below:
1) Use front / back parking sensors and 360 degree camera in closed spaces like parking lot.
2) Drive at crawling speed inside society premises and even in roads when small kids are nearby. Caution is needed especially near school area.
3) Avoid racing trucks and buses. Either be far ahead of them are well behind them to avoid being in their blind spot

Haven’t used a car with ADAS. Does it minimise such risk from blind spots

ADAS has a minimum speed limit before it kicks in. A 360 degree camera helps better.

Re: Front Blind Zone Crashes - Risk Reduction Strategies

Very informative,
My car doesnot have 360 degree camera but i have made a habbit to always put car in reverse gear and check if anything is visible in rear parking camera, plus i always roll down windows for few seconds before i move forward to be aware of my spatial surroundings also
