XUV 3XO has scored 5-Star Safety in BNCAP tests

The XUV 3XO has scored 5-Star Safety in both Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP) in the latest Bharat NCAP crash tests.

Re: XUV 3XO has scored 5-Star Safety in BNCAP tests

Why does the 3X0's side curtain airbag not opening during frontal offset crash?!
In the GNCAP test, we can see Dzire's airbag is opening on the same test.

I checked other test videos of BNCAP. It turns out all the other cars (Tatas and Citoen) except Mahindras' side curtain airbags gets deployed during the frontal offset crash test!

Did BNCAP disable them intentionally this time for whatever reason?

This is usually dependent on the car and possibly the vendor of the airbag system. In Euro NCAP too many cars don't deploy curtain airbags in the offset test. Even if you look at the VW Virtus/Taigun exported to Latin America with 6 airbags, this is the case. It usually doesn't make difference at all as far as scoring is concerned.

But it is much more common in the US as IIHS greatly penalises hard head contact with the B pillar on rebound, and their deceleration limit for a contact to be considered 'hard' is a little lower than GNCAP/BNCAP/Euro NCAP (70 g vs 80, IIRC).

Re: XUV 3XO has scored 5-Star Safety in BNCAP tests

Good show by Mahindra again !

Its almost a given that any Mahindra or TATA that would be tested today by either GNCAP or BNCAP would score an impressive 5 stars. Such is the safety standards that these two home grown manufacturers have set.

By the way, I like the presentation of "Ratings applicability" column in the test results. I would say, for cars which have two versions (lets say a hatchback and a corresponding compact sedan), this column would be very useful to understand if the rating for the hatchback is applicable to the compact sedan counterpart or vice-versa.

Case in point, back a few years ago when GNCAP released ratings for the TATA Tigor, the rating was for the Tigor, but it was implicitly applicable for the TATA Tiago as well. And not only that, the the car tested was Tigor petrol, but was assumed implicitly to be applicable for the Diesel and CNG versions as well.

Having "ratings applicability" list would sort of put a stamp that indeed the different versions of the car are rated implicitly.
