This past weekend, four Indian software professionals from Syntel, and the spouses of two of them were killed on the Interstate-90 in western Pennsylvania. All in their mid-twenties.

They were going on a tourist trip to Niagara Falls.

At approx 4 pm on Saturday, 3 miles before the Pennsylvania-Ohio border, their blue minivan crossed the median, flipped, rolled and came to rest on its roof on the wrong side of the road.
Then it was hit by an oncoming car traveling westbound. The lady driving that car escaped with a few injuries.

The sole survivor, also from Syntel, in the front passenger seat was treated in hospital and released.

The chap driving the van, Kaushik Deb, 26 died on impact.

Others killed were Manoj Jharia, 35; his wife Mili Jharia, 28; Nitin Agarwal, 29; his wife Swati Singhal, 25 all from Jabalpur, MP; and Subham Choudary, 24 from Indore, MP. The sole survivor in the minivan, Nitin Gupta, 28 from Meerut was sitting in the front passenger seat. He was treated and released from hospital the same day.

Another van carrying six more Syntel employees, was accompanying them, a few minutes ahead of them.

Pennsylvania state police found no clearly apparent cause of the crash. It happened a quarter mile after both vans started off from a rest halt.

Very tragic. Distraction, lost control ? will have to wait for details I guess
RIP

That's very tragic and maybe sudden deviation of the median might have resulted in loss of control. Very Very sad that so many lives have been lost.

Sad news indeed. I have worked with Syntel in the past and it hurts to know that my fellow colleagues even though I haven't worked with them are no more.

God Bless the departed souls

Am working in syntel and this news is really tragic. Hope their souls rest in peace. God bless

R.I.P. to the lost souls, really targic accident, god gives strength to their family to go thru this trauma of life..

Read the news in TOI. Very sad to hear this. May their souls RIP and may God give their families strength to bear the loss.

Sadly in our country even a taxi hit on a signal inside a city could kill the occupant minister. Considering the number of accidents that are happening in our country everyday, the safety restrictions must come as early as possible.

In addition to having ambulances on our national highways, we should equip our highway patrol with such machinery too to rescue people, if not done already.

Contrary to this, I believe it WAS her time, else no way else can anyone come out of such a horrific accident, alive.

When I said "not her time" it meant "not her time to die"

There is no word on exactly why the vehicle lost control and crashed into the building but police are working with the theory that the driver was pressing the accelerator instead of the brake.
Quoted from the article.

This is baffling, some great pick up the car must have had that the driver couldnt realise on time! Very sad to see such an accident.
