Re: San Francisco - What to see / do there?

a week trip is in the planning to San Francisco in October end November beginning types, its more of a business trip, but can spare a day or two,
what's the must see places.

& More important:
what's the shopping scene like.
what's cheaper to buy compared to India..?
I rather not pickup stuff which costs a bomb in SF, only to find it cheaper in our hometown Bangalore

Thanks in advance guys

With a day or two, i would suggest you do the touristy part in SFO like Golden Gate bridge, Fishermans wharf, Sausalito, Muir woods etc. If you have time and a car, visit Santa Cruz.

Shopping, it really depends on what you are looking for. Ghiradelli chocolates are really good, if you are staying in the SFO area you can visit the factory during the weekday.

Electronics cost less compared to India, but if you want iPhone 7 it may not be a easy one to get.

Clothing can be got a good prices, but since you have less time not sure if you can make it to the outlet factories.

And yea if you like to drink good coffee, head over to Sightglass or Blue bottle.

I suggest, Napa and Sonoma, time permitting. It will be a different experience and you get to see different kind of tourist spot which can get you high (well...kind of).

Adding on.. Hire a bike at Fisherman's wharf and go cycling(http://alcatrazbikesandtours.com) to Sausalito via the Golden Gate Bridge, head to the Marin Highlands, take in the lovely sight of the GG bridge and the SFO bay, cycle all the way to charming Sausalito, spend some time in the lovely town, and take a ferry back to the SFO harbor: http://goldengateferry.org/schedules/Sausalito.php

Take the much famed SFO Cable car between Market & Powell - http://www.sfcablecar.com/ - You will enjoy the ride.

If you are open to travelling in public transit for experiencing the city (like I do), go ride the BART, all the way to Fremont and back.

For shopping, you have to head to outlet stores for some good deals on clothes. For electronics, head to the nearest Best Buy.

Thanks for the reply

You all have given me good options
But it's more of a sightseeing thing
Of course I'll keep that in mind
Thanks a ton for it

What I want is: what's a great value for money buy compared to India

Like for example, if you're in Thailand pickup spirits TVs etc
I'm looking for that kind of take home stuff

Though TV's are definitely cheaper, the problem with household electronics like is that you need a converter, plus keep in mind the PAL/NTSC. I know friends who have taken TV to India, and made it work this way. Paying for excess baggage, plus customs still makes TV cheaper in US compared to India.

I assume you are a brown guy like me. Just make sure, you never use this word in public, in any context, while you are here.
I like China town for all the food and color. If you are a fan of all types of food, you will like it.

good catch

Drinks are cheaper in CA compared to other states, plus if you have a friend who has Costco membership can help save some $$.
