All, I've always been fascinated by the number of river crossings and bridges on the NH 17. Is there a compiled list somewhere ? Specifically interested in the ones in Karnataka, but also appreciate other ones being added to the list..

A few :

Gangawali River - Gangawali Bridge
Honnavar - Sharavathy - Sharavathy Bridge
Nandini river - Pavanje Bridge
Kumta - Aghanashini River

This is one about Edappally (KL end of NH17). Be warned that I am going to hijack your thread - only slightly.

Some pics of the Varapuzha bridge - first / last bridge on NH 17 (depending on your perspective).

1. View from the bridge.




2, Early morning traffic.





3. Toll booth of the Varapuzha bridge. Note the driving style - I am on a KeSRTC bus, front seat, I thought that This booth would be history in a few secs. Thankfully, AL buses are really manoeuvrable.




4. The bridge without a road. This would be the last bridge on the NH 17; some time in distant future. When completed, this would be the last bridge. This one is over Railway line at Edappally.




5. Not strictly bridge - but this is the situation of the notional highway No. 17 in KL.






All pics from mobile - April 2010. Do not remember. Situation has improved a bit in past few months - but that Railway bridge still remains incomplete.


Edit:- Towards further North - the next notable bridges would be the one at Kottappuram (ones between N. Paravur and Kodungallur). Next major bridge is Chettuva one.

Quite a few bridges between Kannur and Payyannur - the Valapattanam and Payyannur (Perumba) ones provide best views from the bridges - IMHO.

There is also the bridge over the Kali River at Karwar,then the bridge at Kuttipuram over the Bharatapuzha,the one over Chaliyar River at Feroke.

Kodungallur, Chettuva, kallai, korapuzha, mahe, Valapattanam, Netravathy.. and the list goes on..

Thank you for the contributions, guys. I'm also looking for the town names where they cross over in addition to the rivernames.

Where does Netravathi cross over NH 17 ? Also the river at Kallianpur - is it Sita river ?

Netravathi crosses NH 17 just south of Mangalore. This will be a few kms after crossing the northern border of Kerala on NH-17.

List of bridges in kerala on NH 17 that I remember

• varapuzha bridge
• (two indescript bridges between varapuzha and kodungallur)
• Kottapuram bridge
• Chettuva bridge
• Ponnani bridge
• Kuttipuram bridge (across nila river)
• Feroke bridge (across chaliyar river)
• Kallai bridge( across kallai river)
• korapuzha bridge
• Murad bridge vadakara(across murad river)
• mahe bridge
• Dharmadam bridge
• Moithu Bridge (weak bridge)
• Valapatanam Bridge
• One bridge before thaliparamba
• Payyanur bridge (perumba)
• Nileshwaram bridge ( there is a beautiful restaurant on the banks of this river)
• Chandragiri bridge( across chandragiri river)
• Uppala bridge
• Manjeshwar Bridge
  then the might netrawathi bridge over river netravathy near mangalore.

These are the major bridges that I know on NH 17 in Kerala. It is possible that i might have missed some small bridges. Also I have not driven much in the mangalore direction after kasargod.

I was under the assumption that river bridges were being referred to here.
there are 8 ROBs in total between calicut and mangalore
Apart from this there is one ROB in kuttipuram
ROB = Overbridges

Out of the 8 ROBs, 6 R.O.Bs between calicut and kannur

• Vengali
• Vengalam
• chengottukavu
• Nandi bazaar
• Chorode
• Edakkad

and two between kannur and kasargod
Nileshwaram (incomplete nileshwaram-cheruvathur ROBs)
Kotikulam (this one is on the alternate route from kanhangad to ksd (not
actually on NH17)

There are several small bridges on the way some of them we might not even notice.
