Thanks J.Ravi for the recommendation. I booked Hotel Gnanam after searching for almost all Hotels/Lodges. Everything damn is already booked. Hotel Gnanam charges Rs.2700/- incl. taxes for A/C Deluxe room for 2 adults as standard rooms are already booked!

I stayed in PLA Residency when I went there recently. Room was very good, hot water was available and AC was working well too. Cost was 2k per day for 3 people. Credit card was accepted with no extra charges.

I too tried for PLA but it is all booked!
How about for local sight seeing in Tanjore. As i've booked for Hotel Gnanam and they say that they don't arrange for cabs for local sight seeing, can we get cab facility for this after going there? Any contact info?

Sorry, Not sure about cab facility since I went in my car.
If it is just for local sight seeing in Tanjavur, Even a rickshaw would do, since the Brihadeeswara temple and royal palace/museum are not too far.

Ramki,

You don't need any conducted tour and comfortably be done on your own. Hire a autoricksahw and go around the town. Most of the drivers are aware of these places. There are only two places to see

a) The great Brihadeshwara temple which is a UNESCO heritage site. You need two hours for this.

b) Tanjore fort and palace - An hour

When you are in Swamimalai, try and visit the place where the famous Chola Bronzes are done. take a look at this excellent photo essay in Frontline.
