Accommodation in Delhi: Auto Expo (Pragati Maidan) & Elsewhere

Hi guys,

Requesting suggestions for accommodation when visiting the Auto Expo 2012. I know many BHPians will be visiting too, so hopefully this thread helps others as well.

Preferences:

- Either walking distance from the Auto Expo

OR

- Well connected via Metro. Guess Pragati Maidan has its own Metro station, thus any hotel that is within walking distance of a Metro station will also do. However, the total travel time shouldn't be too long.

There were some awesome Bed & Breakfast places available close to the Buddh circuit (link to thread). Something similar will also do.

No taxi-commuting options please; the crowds made getting a cab nearly impossible the last time.

Thanks!

Just a suggestion. Shouldn't we have our own "I have a couch" thread here on T-BHP. Only my opinion, obviously not everyone has to subscribe to the thread.

This would be helpfull as we are driving 'up' to Delhi from Cochin in Jan for Auto Expo 2012. Would be great if someone can suggest a place with safe parking facility.

Walking distance: Just one place comes to mind - the National Sports Club of India. Has rooms, cost 3k+INR IIRC, but available only when booked through members / appropriate sources.

Metro: Yes, there's a Metro station right next to Pragati Maidan, on Line 3. It would make great sense to look for a hotel in NOIDA or Vaishali (terminal station on Line 4), where tariffs are cheaper than in New Delhi.

Bed & breakfast places in Delhi would cost @ Rs.1500-3500 per room. January being peak tourist season, rates are high anyway.

Check this: http://www.gingerhotels.com/Delhi-EastDelhi/tariff.aspx - decent rates, nearest Metro Station Anand Vihar ISBT on Line 4.

re: Accommodation in Delhi: Auto Expo (Pragati Maidan) & Elsewhere

I would advise everyone to try and find accommodation either within walking distance, because metro gets awfully crowded.
Only exception.
Noida sec 32 is first station and from there you can easily get seat, and then do non-stop to Pragati maidan. Do not even think trying to change metro during that time.

I know of a B&B setup in Green Park, that I use very frequently for my guests & clients from out-station. I get it for 2.5K a night. It is diagonally opposite the Green park Metro station from where one can take a metro (yellow line) till Rajiv Chowk, change & take the Barakhambha, Mandi House train to Pragati Maidan (Blue Line).

re: Accommodation in Delhi: Auto Expo (Pragati Maidan) & Elsewhere

CP has a lot of hotels in the outer circle.
look for embassy, fiftyfive, etc.
all on google.
Direct metro with just 2-3 stations, i think.

Seemed to be more convenient, with more to do other than the xpo, without needing to move too far.

re: Accommodation in Delhi: Auto Expo (Pragati Maidan) & Elsewhere

Getting an accommodation at a 'walking' distance will be either very tough or very costly. One can get rooms in and around Sundar Nagar area (like Jukaso Inn etc.) i.e. next to zoo.

For those who can not afford rents more than Rs.1000 per day can stay at any of the hotels in the areas on Line 3 (Blue Line i.e. from Vaishali / Noida City Center to Dwarka). One can stay anywhere in Delhi but during the peak hours there is heavy rush at inter-changing metro stations. Therefore select any place on Line 3 (Blue Line) as shown in the map below.

The cheapest hotels in Delhi are either in Paharganj or Karol Bagh areas. Since Karol Bagh is on Line 3 therefore one can stay in Karol Bagh and can reach Pragati Maidan metro station (6th station from Karol Bagh - approx 20 minutes time) via Blue Line metro.

If anybody is staying in Paharganj area (around New Delhi Rly. Stn.) then he needs to walk down (1 KM approx) to Rajiv Chowk (Cannaught Place) metro station to catch the Blue Line Metro for Pragati Maidan (3rd in station from Rajiv Chowk - approx 7 minutes).

By staying in Karol Bagh / Paharganj areas, one can enjoy the benefits of being in Central Delhi and also go for the movies, famous monuments / places and shopping at places like Cannuaght Place, Karol Bagh etc. Good connectivity to all other areas of Delhi.

Hope this information helps!

All the best for Auto Expo 2012.

Cheers!

Remember to reach via Metro you will have to take Blue line Metro towards Noida, which is extremely crowded. Expect something like the pic below

re: Accommodation in Delhi: Auto Expo (Pragati Maidan) & Elsewhere

Connaught Place (CP) is 5-7 min travel distnace on the same Blue line (line#3) of metro. There are numerous hotels in and around CP like (premium to relatively budget like Hans Plaza, The Connaught, Marina, Janpath, York etc.)

There is also a reasonably priced Hotel Shipra in Laxmi Nagar. Direct link (8-10 min travel time) through metro on same Blue Line connecting Vaishali.

From sector 32 Noida (The starting point of Noida link), the metro travel time is approx. 30 min. There are some hotels near this metro station (I think they are not too expensive) - one of them Hotel Rama is right there near the station. Along the Noida metro line, there are a few pricey hotels like Radisson, Mosaic, Savoy Suites, Double Tree etc. There are numerous private guest house arrangements too in Noida AFAIK, but never availed any.

For a very wide choice of hotels - more of budget level, one can also stay at Paharganj, Near New Delhi Rly. station and take an auto to Rajiv Chowk Metro station at Connaught Place (typically for Rs. 40/-). Auto availability on this stretch is not a difficult proposition in either direction at any time. There is also a 5 min. metro link between N. Delhi Rly Station (Ajmeri Gate side) and Rajiv Chowk station.

@.anshuman, the noida line crowding ain't that bad -especially Rajiv Chowk onward towards Vaishali/Noida, which is the relevant section here. One can travel far more comfortably than in Mumbai local.

Rush: If you get a chance, check with Portya if he was ok with his accomodation in Karol Bagh.

I think Karol Bagh might be your best bet.

I stayed for the F1 at a hotel in patelnagar, close to karol bagh called Clark heihts, very nice hotel with all facilities and 200 mts from the Metro station. They also have another hotel in the same area called marble arch. We paid 2k per double room including taxes and breakfast

There are lot of hotels on NH-8 at Mahipal pur and there is a Metro station of Aerocity (Airport-New Delhi railway station route) there. Get down at Shivaji stadium and walk down to Rajiv chowk metro line no 3 or hire a Auto to reach to pragati maidan.
Mahipal pur Hotels are newly build and are also reasonably priced.

re: Accommodation in Delhi: Auto Expo (Pragati Maidan) & Elsewhere

There is no problem reaching Pragati Maidan via metro. The problem starts when you have to get back to hotel/accommodation in the evening via metro. The line at the entrance becomes 1 km long and it takes around 45min- 1 hour atleast to board the metro. With ladies and family, it is not advisable to board the metro at that time.

Best is to come by metro, enjoy the Expo late till 9 pm and then return by cab/ bus/auto.

re: Accommodation in Delhi: Auto Expo (Pragati Maidan) & Elsewhere

Try Hotels in Paharganj.

Costs - 700 bucks approx per room (for two people)

Pros
Very good connectivity, as its next to Delhi Railway Station
Can visit nearby areas comfortably
Person can travel to Pragati Maidan via Metro Or Auto (if too much traffic, still can reach very near to Pragati Maidan)

Cons
No breakfast in the hotel, however lots and lots of Dilli ka sasta khana hotels in the area, CP closeby, can have food in CP area
Not so attractive place, lighting outside the hotels looks like Vegas

Since a person would be visiting to the Auto Expo for a max of 1 Or 2 days only, cost conscious travelers can opt for Hotels in Paharganj (Next to New Delhi Railway Station)
