Bangalore to Kanha

Hi All,

I'm driving from Bangalore to Kanha some time soon, just wanted to start the homework before.

The route is Bangalore-Hyderabad-Nagpur-Kanha.

I know the route from bangalore to hyderabad is very good, and from other post I could find out that even Hyd to Nagpur is also getting 4 lane and pretty good too.

Any information on places around, advise will be helpful.

Sorry my search gave me 0 results on this forum, please mark me to the right thread if this has already been discussed.

Cheers,
Vadi

Re: Bangalore to Kanha

Road north of Adilabad (on Hyderabad-Nagpur) road is still being widened in some sections, expect bad roads.

Go through Nagpur city, better than using the Ring Road since the NH7 runs straight through the city.

Roads north of Nagpur are not in good condition.

Turn off NH7 on Seoni Bypass towards Kanha.

Hey Vadi, did you already go on your trip? If yes, could you let me know where you stayed in Kanha?

Any info on rental cars (self driven) that can be hired from Nagpur for a four day trip to Kanha? A friend is travelling there next month, but is not driving to Nagpur. He would like to rent a car from Nagpur to travel to Kanha and for the four-day duration of his stay there, before returning to Nagpur. Appreciate any info.

I haven't gone yet. This long holiday is the time. I have no clue on any thing as of yet.
The resort has been taken care by my friend. I will get to know only when I reach there.

Wait for my update, will be able to tell you more once I return.

Cheers,
Vadi

Re: Bangalore to Kanha

I'm back from the long journey. It was an amazing experience. We drove around 3500KM 7 days. Kanha
is really worth a visit.

Every bit of what Fauji mentioned in his post is important apart from that below is the road conditions.

The route we took and which I feel is the best route is
Bangalore-Hyderabad-Nagpur-Seoni-Kanha

Throughout the road is awesome. Bangalore-Hyderabad is a treat, you can maintain 120-140. We reached Hyd in 7 hours. No diversions, no bad roads, there are tolls upto 95Rs. Watch out for
wrong side local vehicles.

Hyderabad to Nagpur is the same highway NH7 that continues. The road is almost complete. About 30-40Km stretch is not done at Maharastra side. Hotels are limited, you get Dabha's though.
It is roughly 480+ Km from Hyderabad. Takes around 7-8 hours again to reach.

Nagpur is a big city and you get everything. There are very good restos too. From Nagpur continue the straight road, its the same highway leading to seoni-jabalpur. The road is good except for 40-50KM stretch at Pench region. Its forest and a ghat. The road is pathetic with big pot holes. It is just like the Hasan-Mangalore stretch. Our fate was bad on that day. Two trucks fell on each other and had a halt for almost a day. We had to take an alternate route. After pench there is a deviation to Thirodi-Kattangi. Do not take this route unless you are forced to, this is very narrow and horrible route. Be noted, though you are in MP, people are not very much aware of all roads.
Dont trust people when they give direction. For a stretch of 250KM the total travel time ended up to 12 Hours. Very frustrating journey we had due to the road block. So my sincere advice, stick to Nagpur-Seoni-Kanha route and avoid any other deviation unless it is the only option.

Just before seoni, you need to take right towards kanha. The road till kanha is awesome and can easily maintain 80. You will find dabha's and fuel pumps on the highways.

We stayed at Kanha for 2 nights and 3 days. Beautiful and very clean forest. You hardly see littering.
Plastics are almost nil. Hats off to the people who maintained it this way. Tiger spotting is by luck but I think the chances much higher compared to Bandipur/nagarhole/kabini. We did spot Tiger on our first safari. Otherwise too, the sighting is nice, the safari procedure is quite disciplined. You will
see all most all wildlife that are there in Kanha.

Our next journey was to Dandeli river rafting. The route is Kanha-Seoni-Nagpur-Wardha-Nanded-Sholapur-Bijapur-Darwad-Dandeli. This was the longest journey we had. Due to time constraint we could not halt any where. I suggest break journey.. Halt at wardha or Nanded would have been little
relaxing. The rood are broad but not flat. Very bumpi, not pot holes but very frustrating due to bumps.
Some one suggested to take Nagpur-Aurangabad-Pune-Belgaum-Dandeli. This distance would have been 1300. It would have been foolishness if we had taken it. Like I said, road is good but bumpy, since we had continues night drive, we felt tiring other wise the stretch is actually a highway. And also the stretch from Sholapur is awesome. So don't deviate on the name of good road.

Hope my experience can help people who are planning to drive the way we did. I will post pictures soon.

Cheers,
Vadi
