Bangalore-Mysore-Wayanad-Bijapur-Bangalore

On an expected cold weekend in February 2012, I have to attend 3 (actually 4) weddings over a period of 5 days(9th to 13th) out of which one is that of a BHPian (name to be revelaed later )

The problem is the 3 marriages are at 3 different places not so close to each other

First one on Thursday is in Mysore, Karnataka
Second one on Friday is in Wayanad, Kerala
Third one is in Bijapur, Karnataka
Fourth one which I will eventually have to cancel, is in Udupi, Karnataka

One biggest influencing factor is the expected delivery of my friend's brand new XUV W8.
We are expecting that in January and this whole journey will be done in that.
If it is not delivered, the Bijapur drive is cancelled (train tickets available).
Mysore and Wayanad weddings will be done on my Punto.

Our plan:
  • 9th: Bangalore-Mysore and finish wedding by afternoon and reach Wayanad
  • 10th: Wayanad wedding the whole day
  • 11th: we plan to leave Wayanad to reach Bijapur by night fall (approximately 750kms)
  • 12th: Wedding and Bijapur sightseeing
  • 13th: Bijapur to Bangalore
Now I need expert advice on roads from TBHPians for the 11th (other days are pretty straight forward).

Google maps gave me the following route:
Bangalore-Mysore-Wayanad-Bijapur-Bangalore-untitled.jpg

Even though this is one of the shorter routes, but I’m somehow sceptical about this route.
I don’t know the present road condition between Hassan>Shimoga>Shiggaon
Keeping this route as a basis, I have the following alternatives in mind. (I feel the earlier we join NH4, the sooner we will reach our destination)
  1. Take Kalpetta>Mysore>Hassan instead of the Kalpetta>Gonikoppa>Gorur>Hassan
    • I know Mysore>Hassan is very good even though it’ll be longer
    • I don’t know Gonikoppa>Gorur road condition
  2. After Hassan, Take Tiptur>Huliyar>Hiriyur>
    • What is the condition of this stretch of the road?
  3. After Hassan, take Kadur>Birur>Ajjampur>Davangere
    • The condition of this stretch is a mystery for me.
  4. After Hassan, Take Shivamogga>Malebennur>Ranebennur
    • I know that the road till Shivamogga is good, but after that, I have no idea.
  5. If I take option 2 and reach Hiriyur, After Chitradurga, can I take NH13 to Bijapur via Hospet?(this is the shortest route)
    • Or should I take the NH4 via Hubli
Other Conditions:
  1. Because of less leave balance at office, we must do this in a single day. We have no option.
  2. We don’t want to drive overnight…11PM is the cut off time for any day
Please suggest guys

@Bigzero's update is timely for you on how to hit NH4!

Kalpetta-Nanjangud-Mysore-Srinrangapatna-Pandavpura-Nelligere-Huliyar-Hiriyur.

From Hiriyur, either you drive all the way till Hubli and take 218 to Bijapur. NH218 is in
very good condition.

The shorter option is via NH13 from Chitradurga (About 70km shorter).
But if you ask me take the route via Hubli. Also since the drive is 800km, you need start early on 11th.
But you should be able to make it.
