Hey Guys,

I am planning to shift abroad for job in recent future therefore i need to send my beloved (Volkswagen Polo Petrol 1.2) back home so that there is always someone there to take care of her. I am presently in Navi Mumbai and my native home is in Patiala, Punjab.

I have read a lot about dangers of getting Car damaged during transport through movers and packers (although Agarwal packers seems to have better reputation among competition). Therefore i have decided that i will drive it home myself. I never did such a long trip before but as they say, there is always the first time.

Can you guys please suggest me the best possible route from Navi Mumbai to Patiala, Punjab? Google maps does suggest two routes (both are approx 1600 kms) one is via Navi Mumbai>Ahmedabad>Kota>Jaipur>New Delhi>Punjab whereas the other one is Navi Mumbai>Indore>Gwalior>New Delhi>Punjab.

Gurus, Please suggest the best one (even if it is different than the above two)

If you are not fixated on Delhi then I'd suggest Rewari-Rohtak-Ambala route.

Alternate route is mega highway from Kishangarh-Hanumangarh-Bhatinda-Patiala. H'garh to Mandi-Dabwali is a pain though.

Avoid the Indore route.

Take the first route - Mumbai - Ahmd - Jaipur - Delhi - Punjab. The roads are safe and in great shape.

Indore - Gwalior - Delhi - Messy roads and high truck traffic. Avoid.

The Delhi route is the best of the lot, good roads all along, except for the road widening mess in Jaipur-Delhi.

Please make sure that you plan the TIMINGS your journey in such a way that you don't encounter the HEAVY truck traffic around Ghodbunder, Narmada Bridge and between Jaipur - Delhi. Please go through the Mumbai Delhi thread and you will know all such timing details. Check this post on that thread:

If its a weekday then reach Gurgaon before 5 PM to avoid Gurgaon Delhi rush. To avoid Jaipur - Delhi Trucks, avoid leaving Jaipur in the evenings.

Jatin,if Patiala is your destination then you could avoid Delhi and take the route that Woman On Wheels took a couple of months back during her drive to Patiala from Mumbai.Here is a link to her writeup

Hey thanks Ranjitp1. This route also seems interesting. I went through the travelogue by womanonwheels and the said route seems to be convenient almost throughout. Now it seems i have more options to choose from, courtesy team BHP .
