Hi all
We are planning roadtrip from Pune to Leh in September and below is our detailed plan. We'll be traveling in 2023 Honda City MT. Since this is my first time taking this trip, any suggestions or changes are highly appreciated.
Vehicle : 2023 Honda City V MT
Total Drive Time : 121 Hrs
Total Distance : 5558
TIA
Hello,
Have been plotting my drive from Mumbai to Leh for the past few years and each year something comes up and I have to let it go. I am hoping that this year will be the year. The only possible timeframe for me to do this drive is mid Sept to first week October.
My companion on my trip will be my i-Turdo Petrol Altoz.
I hope to do the complete circuit entering from Manali and exiting from Srinagar.
Plan is to stay the night at Keylong and leave as early as possible towards Leh. As I was plotting my route, I noticed that instead of going to Leh, I could start from Nyoma and do the circuit in opposite direction.
Keylong Nyoma Tso Morori Hanle Spangmik Nubra Valley Leh Srinangar.
Has anyone done this and would you recommend this.
My thoughts behind this are that with the new army airport being planned at Nyoma there will be medical help available incase of any problems with breathing so dont need to go to Leh for this reason.
I can stay 2 night at Nyoma, making day trip to Tso Morori and then moving on towards Hanle.
This also allows for a more relaxed drive towards Srinagar as I will be leaving from Leh.
Of course all this is dependent on the road conditions and weather. What would you recommend??
Thanks

The drive from Delhi to Jispa is a long one. The next day will be another long drive to Leh. We drove from Chandigarh to Manali and that it took like 8 to 9 hours (relaxed drive including breaks). Jispa is about 3 to 3.5 hours from Manali throught Atal tunnel. While the roads are good, you would still be reaching Jispa quite late and would be leaving Jispa early the next day. It seems a little tight. I think you should give it another day somewhere in between.
Getting into Jispa early and then leaving the next day would be preferable from the aclamatization standpoint as the drive to Leh from Jispa has several high altitude passes including Tanglang La at > 17k feet. So any extra aclamatization will make this drive more pleasant.

Thank you for your inputs. We can do New Delhi - Manali, overnight in Manali and then leave Manali early in the morning directly to Leh. Would that be alright ?

I think it would be better if you do it Srinagar - Leh - Manali.
Hight gain will be gradual on this route and there will be lesser chances of AMS.

Can be done and I did this last year in October. However I had AMS when I reached Leh. I would suggest you to spend one night each in Manali and Jispa, and enjoy both the places.
Team, I am planning a solo drive to Ladakh in the first week of August. Will be starting from Bangalore in my 2012 Scorpio 4wd. I have a high level planning done for about 15-20 days. As I will be alone, will be booking accommodation on need basis, so no advance bookings.
This is my second trip to ladakh, first was in 2016 in same Scorpio. Have prepared the vehicle and carrying options for emergency cooking and sleeping in car.
Looking for like minded bhpians who are interested to join, can be in car or a convoy.
And suggestions for solo ladakh travel are welcome.

The conservative plan is to stay for the night at Manali and then in Jispa. Jispa at 3.5k m altitude will help in aclamatization. My only point to your earlier plan was that driving from Delhi to Jispa is going to be a really long drive. That's why generally people have a break in between.
Another option if you really don't want to add another day is to do Chandigarh to Jispa if you can get into Chandigarh instead of Delhi.
It is well known that Leh is at high altitude with low atmospheric pressure. It is very vital to acclimatise for couple of days in hotel prior to moving out for sight seeing.
Couple of years ago, had travelled there by air, and experienced the impact of low atmospheric pressure on our body. We also witnessed the impact of low atmospheric pressure on chips packet. It had swollen due to relatively more air pressure inside the chips packet (filled in plains).
Does low atmospheric pressure at Leh also has any impact on tyres ?
Do we have to alter the tyre pressure to relatively lesser PSI ?
This will help to plan accordingly.
Hi, how advisable is it to do the delhi-srinagar-leh drive solo ? I am trying to plan a ladakh workation for the 2nd half of August. I have driven across Himachal alot during 2020 and 2021 so I'm comfortable driving in the mountains.
My ideal route was to do delhi-srinagar-leh over a span of 4 days with an extra break in srinagar. Post reaching leh I would work from Monday to Thursday and explore on Friday -Sunday.
All of this would be solo, has anyone done similar travels in that region solo? would love to hear their experiences and suggestions on do's and don'ts.
Hi Everyone, this is my first post. Thanks in advance for the replies.
I am planning for Mumbai-Srinagar-Leh-Manali-Mumbai route frok from last week of September-first week October. Car would be Nexon petrol.
My plan is to drive solo or with a buddy till Srinagar. From Srinagar, my wife & son 11yrs old will join. 1 st query is here. Considering most of the flights reach Srinagar by noon. I would like start straight on & try reaching Kargil by evening. Is it doable? Will I be allowed to pass via Sonamarg check point in afternoon?
Planning to reach a day in advance till Srinagar to get car checked/any other issue that may come up.
Plan ahead is
Day 2 Kargil- Leh
Day3 Leh
Day 4 Nubra Hunder
Day 5 Turtuk - Nubra
Day 6 Nubra to Pangong
Day 7 Hanle/if possible Umilng La
Day 8 Back to Leh drop of wife & kid for flight back to Mumbai
Second part would be Leh - Tso Moriri (if possible)
Tso - Moriri - Jispa
Jispa-Kumzum La- Manali
Manali- Mumbai
Does the plan look ok?

I will be traveling with my family by end of September. Currently planning from delhi but would like to know your plan and explore option starting from Bangalore itself.
As an update to my above query. The actual dates from Srinagar would be from 28 September till 6 th October. So the plan is to leave at least 4-5 days in advance.
I just saw the news that elections are declared in J&K. Would there be any special requirement needed to travel thru Jammu -Srinagar- Kargil as my car is Maharashtra registered?
