I'll take NH7 and Raichur-Hubli-Dharwad if I ever have to drive to Goa again.

Yeah that's where people usually get lost. SH12 is the route to take. Agreed about Zaheerabad to Humnabad. But to be honest, what you see now is a much better state than how it was in July. That time there very big potholes throughout, at least now they are filled up to an extent.

Any updates on the Gadwal - Raichur stretch? How is the road condition now?

I have done the Hyderabad-Raichur- Gangawathi-Hubli-Karwar-Goa .
This route is good for south Goa.Visit to Hampi possible in this route.
The roads are good throughout.-Raichur-Gangawathi-Koppal- Hubli is the route and deviations
from this route roads are bad.

Through Amboli-Sankeshwar-Kagvad-Bijapur-Gulbarga-Hyderabad
This also good roads from Sankeshwar strictly follow the state highway upto Kagvad and Bijapur.
For travelling to north Goa this is a better option.
Both take up about 13-14hrs running time.

The highlighted portion is the most important thing to keep in mind while taking this route. Any diversion, however small it might seem to be, could spell disaster.

I'm saying this because on our return from Goa in 2009, we missed the left turn towards Chikkodi/ Kagvad after crossing Sankeshwar, and ended up taking the route via Ghataprabha-Mahalingpur-Jamkhandi to Bijapur. The stretch from Ghataprabha to Jamkhandi was an absolute nightmare--perhaps the worst road we ever drove on.

It looks like hellmet also got a taste of missing the main route, and hence the perception of bad roads.

Yup, that seems to be the one, especially between Bijapur and Sankeshwar.
Gajadonga to please confirm.

That is the perfect route in the map .
This was the same route that mobike took last time he traveled to Goa.
The route from Sankeshwar-Gandhiglaj-Ajra-Amboli-Sawanthwadi was
suggested by Milechruncher.

Did Hyderabad - Belgaum and back this weekend.
Took the following route
Hyd - Gadwal - Raichur - Lingsugur - Bagalkot - Lokapur - Belgaum.
following are the details
Hyd - Gadwal - NH7 is really good. The turn to Gadwal is around 3 km after you cross the Krishna river on NH7. Some amount of traffic till Gadwal.
Gadwal - Raichur Good road till half the way. Road narrows down and gets really bad 20 km before Raichur. Watch out for large potholes. Very little traffic.
Raichur - Lingsugur - Bad road till Shirwar which is for around 15 - 20 km after Raichur. Terrific road thereafter.
Lingsugur - Bagalkot - Belgaum - Excellent roads. Speeds of 100 to 120 can be maintained.
Total distance 600 km. Time taken - 10 hours

Thanks for the detailed update.
Which route did you take between Lingsugur - Bagalkot.
On the return from Belgaum did you come by Raichur-Gadwal route.

Lingsugur - Bagalkot was Lingsugur - Mudgal- Ilkyal -Hungund - Bagalkot.
And yes, return was also by Raichur - Gadwal route. As mentioned 20km from Raichur to Gadwal are terrible. But I preferred it as the traffic was sparse and I was in a hurry to hit NH7. I have a problem with the headlight glare from oncoming traffic.
Also, if you're going to Belgaum, you can bypass Bagalkot city by taking the Navnagar route

.

I did the same trip on the 19th Jan and we were able to do this stretch in 12 hours and 30 minutes, from the Club Mahindra Parking in Varca to Parking at my home in Gachibowli. Was pleasantly surprised that Goa is coming closer.

But for the breaks we took along the way, I believe that a sub 12 hour timing is possible. Sub 11 hour also maybe..but with very short breaks.

Thanks for this update. Good to know about the Gadwal section. Thats one thing which I always wanted to understand why there were not many
takers for the Gadwal-Raichur section, as this option prolongs the usage of NH7.

Belgaum-Bagalkot via Yaragattii is super as usual!

Yes it is possible to do this stretch in 12hrs, but 30mins-1hr breaks during the
drive is refreshing.I have done this stretch thrice and most of the time I drive
to Goa I halt at Ankola kamat for a nice food and then proceed.

Hey hyd-goa forum. I'm riding on the 1st to goa from hyd and plan to do an all day ride. I'm riding with a friend on my Enfield. (Attending IBW). The route i'm taking is hyd-raichur-koppal-hubli-goa.

The plan is to leave Feb 1st morning (4:30am) and return on 4th night. Looking for riders who are heading the same way. It'll be great to meet up and ride together.

Anyone who has done the route recently can update on road conditions etc. :thumbs up

After Hubli, pls go to Ankola and then Goa (South Goa). I did this route to Varca (South goa) in 12.5 hours including stops last month. Unsure about the route via Dharwad as the roads in the Dandeli area may be bad. To go to North goa, one need to read other posts in the forum.
