Chennai - Rameswaram - Munnar - Kozhikode route query

Hi all,

I'm currently in Chennai on the first leg of my work-play trip.
Should be finishing my work by first week of Sept. Planning a trip to Rameshwaram, then moving on to Kozhikode to visit folks before going back to Bombay.
More like a day in Rameshwaram, 3-4 days in Kerala overall.

Would greatly appreciate info on road conditions and route suggestions from people who have already done this, or a part of this.

I think there are some work in progress construction zones on the Trichy-NH 210 route. Maybe it will be faster to do Chennai-Ulundurpet-Salem-Namakkal-Karur-Dindigul-Madurai-Rameshwaram. This will mean you're on NH7 between Salem-Madurai which is excellent and the NH 49 Madurai-Rameshwaram is also good. OR Chennai-Trichy-Madurai-Rameshwaram ?

I would suggest the Trichy route. NH210 is actually very good as per what I know. Chennai Trichy is nice four lane and there on it is a wide two lane via Puddukottai Karaikudi through to Ramnad. Both these towns have bypasses too. Chennai Salem I think would be a big detour.

For the Kozhikode leg, I would think that the Palakkad option will be better since it will avoid the ghat sections of Munnar (Unless you want a scenic drive and would like to enjoy a ghat drive).

Yeah, the idea is a long drive. The scenic, the better.
