Absolutely true on this part.A special mention ought to go out to all those TN & GJ truck drivers for the manner in which they conduct themselves on the highways.
1.Forever on the left.
2.Always ready to help you with indicators and their overtaking intentions
3.If its a risky overtake, they would let you know with their hand signals
4.If you are caught in a jam,and there is a long line,it would almost always be a TN/GJ guy who would tell you to go ahead and in all probability it would always be a TN/GJ/PB guy who would let you back into the line in the front!

:thumbs up

Friends,

Any suggestion on a weekend (3rd weekend of March for 2nights) within 4 hours drive? I have been to sagar so any other idea will be great.

You can try Sri Sailam if you haven't been there. But its not a destination for more 1 night.

With the HYD-BLR highway in top condition, you look at BLR. Its a 6 hour drive now. You can also head out to Suryalanka - 370 Kms or Hampi -360 Kms.

If you are not at all for driving then you may want to try Deccan Trails.

Gandikota and Horsley Hills can also be good options.

Pardon my ignorance, but what do you do at Srisailam? I am not much into temples.....

You can go trekking and safari into the forest through the Mananur Gate

Here are a few I know
Ahobilam
Belum Caves
Manjira river
Gulbarga
Bidar
Lonar
Ajanta Elora
Tadoba
Kolleru ( Papi Kondalu)
Mahabaleshwar ( 570 kms is not great )
Machlipatnam for a sunrise
Suryalanka beach
Vijaywada
Khamam reservoir
Anantagiri (Vikarabad)
Manjira bird sanctury ( you hardly find birds there)
Kuntala Falls
Basara
Malela Theertham
Narsapur Jungles

These are some of the places right on top of my mind. I have been to most of the places mentioned. Some are not very great, if you have lot of expectations. But all are fun to drive and a good company of friends and family makes it even nicer.

Thanks a ton for all the suggestions. Family is bent towards Srisailam. Any suggested place for staying there? We have a 45 day old baby traveling with us.

AP Tourism has two budget hotels there--Gouri Sadan and Ganga Sadan. You may book through any of their offices.

Any reviews on APTDC resort @ Ananthagiri Hills, Vikharabad.?

Its newly opened. You can PM naveen.kk as he would be the right person to give you the info as he is from Vikarabad.

Need your advice. Planning for a family outing the next month first week, somewhere around 10th of May. We were looking at Horsley Hills for our family outing, any suggestions about the same. How would it be during summers?

^^
Just had a small outing to Horsley Hills 2 weeks back.
Weather was great there, no need for fan even during the after-lunch siesta and a nice cool breeze starts right after sunset - it was great. So even during the peak summer it should be much more comfortable than Hyderabad.
But go there if your intention is just to relax and chill out. There is no so called "tourist points" there. It's ideal for lazing around and enjoying peaceful sunsets and a perfectly black night sky.
Wanted to attach some snaps, but they are all larger than 1 MB now. Will resize and put them up soon.

Here are some of the snaps from our recent Horsley Hills trip.

Wow this place is beautiful. Could we have details of the route, place of stay, etc?

There are a couple of threads on Horsley Hills in the travelogues section. You will get full details from those threads.
In gist, the place is about 550 km from Hyderabad. Route is fairly simple - Hyderabad to Anantapur by NH-7 and from there, on to the Kadiri road for another 170 km. Road condition is excellent and good for the two stretches.
Accommodation: Only decent place is APTDC resort with a variety of options. But you should go with advance booking, specially on weekends.
Hope this helps.
