THOPPUR GHAT to KRISHNAGIRI

Friends...

I am planing to drive down to Blr tmw from CBE... I loved the Mettur detour last time (APRIL - before rains) -- lovely roads... hardly any traffic...

The stretch from where the Thoppur Ghat section ends to Krishnagiri however was another thing entirely... resembled MOONSCAPE!!

Any insight into the condition of the road presently??

Guess you want the fastest route and of course the safest route (with all those things in your car's boot!)

YES SIR... That I do!

I also wanted to factor in driving time... Bad roads are a nightmare - esp alone!! ... Sam will agree..

Don't know what the Thoppur ghat is, but if you're doing Salem-Dharmapuri-Krishnagiri, the stretch is HORRIBLE.

Take the CBE-Satyamangalam route naa...

Erm, actually I have no idea. Look up Harrie's marriage thread, he has detailed all the three routes there.

Mettur Bhavani route

Just back from a trip from Hyderabad to Palghat and Ooty... Took the Thoppur - Mettur - Bhavani Route in my Santro Zip Plus and did not find it too bad excepting at Mettur... You know the Santro is not the best car for bad roads but am back at Hyderabad and my 4 year old Santro has not developed any rattling....

The road from Coimbatore till Thalavady is good. From Thalavady till Chamrajnagar so so. Chamrajnagar to Nanjangud was pretty bad last time. But this time around I see a lot changes. Roads being patched up everywhere.

I suggest you take this route

Coimbatore - Sathyamangalam - Chamrajnagar

From here take the road to Gundulpet. This strech was re laid recently and pretty good.

Gundulpet - Nanjangud - Mysore is a dream.

This route is longer by approximately 50 kms compared to Chamrajnagar - Nanjangud route. But a lot better than and you could probably make up for the lost time too.

Opps... Sorry folks... Made that trip already.. forgot to update this thread..

I did Coimy to Bangy (EC - RK Dhaba) in some 3 hrs 40 mins. The roads from Thoppur to Krishnagiri had been patched up... But still no carpet ride! (was able to maintain around 100 kmph - any higher the CD Changer would start skipping....
