Looks decent and a perfect place to stop km wise. By any chance do they allow people to carry their tea and snacks out to the car. I'm sure they wont allow dogs inside.

Sorry, don't know. But the restaurant entrance is separate from the lodging section, and is approached via a small garden (at least from what I remember how it was a couple of years ago). So, to avoid walking to and from the parking, you could ask them if your dog can stay in the garden, so that you can keep your eye on him/her from the restaurant.

Advice on FERRY options to go from Mumbai to Ratnagiri/Ganpatipule?

Mod note: Please use search and continue in an existing thread. Thanks.

Hello,
I am looking to travel to Kolisare (in Konkan). Its a place about an hour's drive from Ratnagiri and is the "Kuladaivat" Lakshmi-Keshav temple for our family.
However, we're two women travelling and I need advice on safest way.
I read about ferry (which takes vehicles too) that was being planned from Mumbai to Ratnagiri OR Mumbai to Ganpatipule. I was contemplating that if there is one, I can take my Celerio on the ferry, roll off at Ratnagiri/Ganpatipule and drive to Kolisare.

I know this forum is on topics related to things with wheels and my Q on ferry doesn't exactly fit, but since there are so many knowledgeable & helpful folks here, I am posting my non-wheels-related Q, nevertheless.

Thanks!

I don't know about the "safest" way but the fastest is via Amba ghat. The route is more like this:https://goo.gl/maps/cyCer9cRYXsUzRpc9

It is about 30-40 km longer but continues to be the fastest way to get to Kolisar.

If you insist on taking the ferry then choose:

Pune - Tamhini - Mangaon - Chiplun - Guhagar - Tavasal (Ferry point) - Jaigad (Crossover to the other side) - Kolisare.

That's fine. Many enthusiasts thrive on putting their car on a ferry. It is good fun for a short drive.

You can drive all the way from Mumbai to Kolisare (through Pen, Polad) or you can take the ferry until Alibag and then drive to Kolisare. Either way, you will only have bad roads.

There is only a ferry that'll take you from Mumbai to Alibag, that you can take your Celerio on. The schedule and prices are here:

EDIT: I probably mistakenly assumed you are from Mumbai. From Pune, the route suggested by moralfibre is the best.

As long as you don't do anything stupid, I don't see a reason to feel unsafe. Common sense should help you.

Avoid travelling in the dark, especially if taking interior roads. Not because it's unsafe, but because once you move away from towns, roads will generally be deserted. State highways should not be much of a problem.

Also good to remember the village life soon comes to a halt after sunset. Shops, restaurants etc may close early.

Re: Mumbai to Ratnagiri - Dapoli or Ganpatipule?

Hi all, I will be travelling from NAVI Mumbai to Ganpatipule this week with a one year old by our own car. Need help regarding the routes, is NH17 still in pretty bad shape? Should I go to Pune first? Thanks.

Re: Mumbai to Ratnagiri - Dapoli or Ganpatipule?

Hi all, sorry for my third continuous post on this thread. But, has anyone travelled from Mumbai to Ganpatipule recently? How are the road conditions and what is the route you took?

Thanks in advance.

On online update - As of April 22nd, Parshuram Ghats will be closed every afternoon(12-4) for blasting works for a month. You may want to time your journey accordingly.
The rest of the road is in various stages of development so diversions would be in place.

Have a safe and fun trip.

Yes, I did, about 3 weeks ago!

If you are OK to drive via a longer route but enjoy more scenic, smooth, and not crowded roads, then I would suggest this route which I took (from Pune) and loved: Mumbai-Pune-Karad-Malkapur-Anuskura -Oni-Ganapatipule.

I have shared more details on this route in another thread. Here is that post: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route...ml#post5717859 (Mumbai - Pune - Kolhapur - Goa : Route Queries)

P.S. On second thought, I realized that the route I suggested is more relevant for someone starting from Pune, as I did. But since you are starting from Mumbai, there is a much shorter route by just following NH66 via Mahad, Chiplun etc. Although that route is shorter, there is a lot of road work happening on NH66 and that is a pain. If I were you, I would still take the longer route via Pune-Karad-Malkapur etc, because I love driving on longer and faster roads rather than slow roads with lot of crowded towns and roadwork in progress (which is the case with NH66). So take your pick.

It would also depend on your starting location in Mumbai. If you are starting from somewhere close to Mumbai-Pune expressway, then the Pune-Karad route makes even more sense.
