To Leh in a Zen?

My friend went there just a week ago in his 2009 WagonR (3 people total). It made it there without any problems but the roads are scary at some places. He took the Srinagar-Kargil-Leh route and it was raining heavily. I am attaching a picture of a road he said was the scariest.
The road is this bad only for a few kilometers, after that it is very good.
