Re: International travel with Covid-19 restrictions

Guys,
Is Tamil Nadu requiring 7 day home quarantine for all international passengers (and not only at-risk countries)? Saw a few news updates since yesterday night - but none of them are exactly clear on the new guidelines as the central government still hasn't agreed on them (as per my limited knowledge).

Any clear link to the updated guidelines would be much appreciated.

Answering my own query - we landed in Chennai international terminal and the process was the same as done in any other state/city; validation of the filled-up form on Suvidha (everyone had to do it mandatorily before security check-in), validation of RT PCR test (<72 hours old) and dual vaccination records and no other requirements/checks.

We moved on to the domestic terminal and caught our forward flight to Bangalore.

International Travel during the Pandemic - Experience and Suggestions

A thread exists on the virus and there is one related to general international travel. However with international travel opening up and countries changing their requirements in an inconsistent manner, I thought this might prove useful for others to plan their own travel.

Mods - please merge if something similar exists.

The trigger is a planned trip wife is making alone to India tomorrow (from the US). There was quite some confusion around changing rules for international arrivals in India (and specific rules for Maharashtra). We were scrambling to find out from recent travelers on what they experienced and hit upon some local community WA/FB groups sharing this info. I thought why not get perspective from the global user group on this forum on travel, precautions, immigration and paperwork details.

I will of course post mine once the trip is completed but encourage others to pen their relatively recent trip experience. Am thinking following format will help. In addition, external links will be useful.

Did see that but it seemed to be more on generic travel questions and not focused on travel with multiple restrictions, options, paperwork and pre-requisites. But thanks!

Re: International Travel during the Pandemic - Experience and Suggestions

Origin : Germany
Destination : India
Transit through : Abu Dhabi
Date : Late December 2021
Airline : Etihad
Experience : My final flight to Bombay landed in the morning, which is apparently the best time to arrive. Since Europe as a whole was considered a risk area, everyone from my flight had to take a PCR test on arrival. The lines for the PCR test and for immigration were not particularly long, I was done with both in 45 minutes.
I got the rapid PCR test result in just over an hour, so my waiting time after clearing customs was just about 5 minutes.

Suggestion : If flying into Bombay, try to pick a flight landing in the morning. Prebook the PCR test (you can choose to pay online or to pay on arrival. I chose to pay on arrival.)

Re: International travel with Covid-19 restrictions

Flights to US are requiring a negative Covid test taken only one calendar day prior to the flight. Is there any lab in Gurgaon which is known to provide same-day results?

Spoke to Dr Lal but they say a turn around of 24 hours minimum.

Also has anyone tried showing antigen tests for flights to US?

You can try with SRL. Usually, based on the time of submission of the sample, expect results between 8-12 hours. They may not commit, but it’s a practice and works well.

Alternatively, you can go to the Airport, and they have options to give results in a few hours, guaranteed.

Thank you Turbanator. I have booked an early morning test with a company called MediBird. They have promised a report within 12 hours.

Keeping airport as a backup option in case MediBird goofs up.

My flight is at 1 am and this one-calendar day rule is a royal pain.

Mighty impressed with MediBird. I was really apprehensive while booking. They had too many 5 star Google reviews which always makes me cautious. However it ended up as a top notch experience.

The booking was for 6-7 am and the person collected the sample at 6:15 am. The reports came at 4:30 pm same day and the price was Rs 500. Overall they delivered what they promised.

Pre departure RT-PCR test

A question on RT PCR test for travel. I will be travelling to Bali with family on 23rd from Bengaluru. Indonesia mandates 48 hours pre-departure RT PCR test. Planning to get the test done by providing home sample on 23rd morning and the testing center has promised to provide the report within 9 hours..

As my wife will be travelling and will arrive in Bengaluru only in the afternoon on 23rd, I am afraid she will not have time for test. Are there any RT-PCR tests being conducted in KIAL which provide reports in a couple of hours?

Re: International travel with Covid-19 restrictions

Guys,
I have relatives traveling from Italy to India in the coming week. While they are following the necessary steps as required, the list of countries where a double vaccination records suffices doesn't contain Italy (list of countries). The list does contain other EU nations as well as other developed nations (US, UK, etc.). Anyone aware of any friends/family who have traveled from Italy and what was their experience?

Or anyone traveled from a country that is not on the list and what was their experience?
