Hi,

I am planning to drive to Satpura from Mumbai Via Indore next month (Dec 2021).

Instead of driving via Bhopal (NH 52 - NH 86), which I am told is a very good road, I was thinking of driving along H 47 / SH 22 - Indore - Hatpipliya - Khategaon - Hoshangabad - Satpura.

Appreciate any guidance from folks who have driven on that route.

I have travelled from Khategaon to Hoshangabad and the route was good. Indore to Khategaon the route was earlier not good but its improved now. My suggestion would be to still use Bhopal route and cover kms fast so that you can slow down for the bad roads which lead to Satpura Madhai. Do not prefer state highways or village highways of MP not all are in good condition.

If you are planning for jungle safari ensure you book it online prior to visiting any Tiger reserve.

Do you really want to go to Hatpipliya - as it is a detour of the Khategaon road.
It is in above average shape (if not good). It is two lane.
Indore - Kannod - Khategaon - Nasrullganj - Hoshangabad - Satpura would be better choice. Avoid this - due to this being two lane & poor traffic on this road.

Stick to Bhopal route - mostly four-lane. If you want to avoid Bhopal - look for a road from Sehore to Nasrullganj. will completely bypass Bhopal, But I am not sure about its current condition. It was good till last year, at least.

Stick to 4 Lane Highways. The route Indore to Hoshangabad is not scenic.
