I was contemplating for this road trip and finally I think, I can start planning for this once in a lifetime trip from Bengaluru to Assam. I will be driving with family (wife and two kids aged 9 and 12), so I will keep the drive relaxed one, can take 9 - 12 days duration to complete one way.

Start from Bengaluru: End of March to Early April 2022.

Vehicle: Mahindra TUV300 T8, 6 years old, 36K on ODO. I will get new tyres before the trip as current tyres completed 6 years. Vehicle will go for a full servicing before the trip, all required oil/fluid (including coolant) and filters will be replaced. Battery replacement will depend on the health check report.

Here is my tentative plan. I would be mainly driving during daytime.



Day 1: Start from Bengaluru and night halt somewhere near Kamareddy.
Day 2: Kamareddy to Jabalpur and night halt.
Day 3: Jabalpur to Varanasi. Stay 2 nights in Varanasi.
Day 5: Varanasi to Muzaffarpur. Stay 2 nights in Muzaffarpur. I have my friend here, who will arrange accommodation.
Day 7: Muzaffarpur to Gossaigaon and night halt. I have couple of friends here, who can help with accommodation.
Day 8: Gossaigaon to Gohpur.

After staying about 30 - 40 days in Assam, we plan to return.



Day 1: Guwahati to Gangtok. Stay 2 nights in Gangtok.
Day 3: Gangtok to Malda and night halt.
Day 4: Malda to Kolkata. Stay 3 nights in Kolkata.
Day 7: Kolkata to Puri. Stay 2 nights in Puri.
Day 9: Puri to Visakhapatnam. Stay 2 nights in Visakhapatnam.
Day 11: Visakhapatnam to Ongole and night halt.
Day 12: Ongole to Bengaluru.

Please suggest if any route modification is required as well as if you know any decent hotels in Kamareddy and Ongole. Thanks in advance.

I will be following this thread. I never did this trip but always had it in the back of my mind. My only inputs are from reading trip reports here.

Onward trip seems fuss free.
Return trip can be tricky as parts of North Bengal roads are mentioned as very bad. Also the km long traffic jams in Bengal Orissa can be a bummer.

However latest updates from people about road conditions will make things clear.

Hello, We drove from Bangalore to Assam in 2017. Following stops we made-
Day1- Start from Bangalore at 3 am, lunch at Hyderabad, reached Vijaywada in evening and stayed there.
Day2- Vijaywada-Visag- Brahmapur( near Gopalpur by sea)
Day3- Bhahmapur- Bhubaneswar- Cuttack- Kolkata and stayed near Burdwan
Day4- Burdwan- malda- siliguri
Day5- reached Guwahati at dusk.
So it took us 4 nights.

I think you would have to rejig your plans a little for want of accomodation.Kamareddy has nothing worth mentioning to stay at.So instead I suggest either you spend the night at Hyderabad or drive straight to Nagpur if you are ok with driving 1000kms a day. Hebbal to Hyderabad is a 8hour drive and another 7-8 hours to Nagpur.

If stay in Hyderabad then Hyderabad-Jabalpur can be achieved in one day in about 12-13 hours,or if you want to break it up, then Hyd-Nagpur and then onwards

Nothing in Kamareddy. There are 1-2 basic hotels in Adilabad and that's about it. Otherwise it is Mayur at Butibori (30 km ahead of Nagpur). Bangalore-Nagpur is very much doable.

For return you can return via Hyderabad. If you still intend to do Naidupeta route, you can use these stay (Bangalore - Vijayawada - Vizag - Bhubaneswar : Route Queries) suggestions.

In Google maps, I have found Hotel Parnika Palace, Kamareddy (formerly known as Hotel Samanya Palace). I have spoken to them and they have rooms for overnight stay. Photos look decent. I am considering this hotel for overnight halt in Kamareddy.

North Bengal roads are a dream to drive, so good is the surface, right from Siliguri till the Assam border, the road surface matches that with the best. Although a two lane road, there would be no problem at all.

Secondly, the jams that you are talking about in Bengal Odisha border are now thing of some very distant past. It’s almost a decade old problem that is long gone. But yes, due to road widening work in Odisha, the roads till Cuttack are little bad, right from Balasore.

Just two things to mention here:

1. Since you have decided to move to Gohpur from Gossaingaon, take the road from Baihata Charali and Mangaldoi route to reach Gohpur instead of going through Nowgaon. You will encounter bad stretches from Tezpur till Gohpur as I have already mentioned before. Just that till Tezpur, you will have no issues and the route is shorter and will save you on tolls as well.

2. Instead of staying at Ongole on your return journey, you can stay at Rajamundhary as hotels are better and distance is also not an issue.

I made a minor change in the plan. We will start one day early, late in the afternoon and take overnight halt at Kurnool. The primary reason is that if I plan for an early morning start, it will be difficult to get more than 4 hours sleep, however early I go to bed and it may not be good for a 15 hours long drive.

I will finish my work early and we will start right after our daughter finishes her online exam.

Day 1: Bengaluru to Kurnool and night halt (hotel booked).
Day 2: Kurnool to Seoni and night halt (hotel booked).
Day 3: Seoni to Varanasi. Stay 2 nights.
Day 5: Varanasi to Muzaffarpur. Stay 2 nights.
Day 7: Muzaffarpur to Gossaigaon and night halt.
Day 8: Gossaigaon to Gohpur. Stay 2 nights.
Day 10: Gohpur to Sivasagar.

Reached Varanasi yesterday evening and today is for local visits.

Summary of our completed part of the trip

25 March: Bengaluru to Kurnool, 373 kms done in 7 hours including 2 breaks.
26 March: Kurnool to Seoni, 897 kms done in 14.5 hours including multiple breaks.
27 March: Seoni to Varanasi, 609 kms done in 11 hours including 3 breaks.

Next destination is Muzaffarpur, will start tomorrow morning.

I noticed that your return trip is planned around 7 May'22. Coincidentally I will be starting from Guwahati for Bangalore around May 6 as well. Currently I am trying to finalise my route. I had travelled from Bangalore to Guwahati last year. The route I took then was Bangalore--> Vizag--> Kharagpur--> Siliguri --> Guwahati. For this trip, I am thinking of taking a different route and would love your feedback on the route you took.
