hi Folks

i will be going to Mussoorie coming weekend from NOIDA and i have few doubts.

the route i'll be taking is

Ghaziabad --->Merrut --->Muzzaffarnagar --->Roorkee --->Dehradun --->Mussoorie

Now the questions:

1. Will it be the best route? if not then which route?
2. Are the road conditions fine ? (bit sceptical abt UP roads)
3. Can i travel in night? is it safe(will be travelling with my GF)
4. Suggested places to stay in Mussoorie.
5. Suggested places to eat enroute,i mean any A1 plazas etc.

All help is very much appreciated.

Never drive on the UP highways at night, period.

GF spells more trouble on the road specifically at night.

Travelling during night on the UP highway is a strict no-no. The road conditions aren't great, the traffic is a mess and dangerous. The fact that you would travel with a girl only makes it a lot more dangerous. Meerut, Muzzarnagar type areas should be avoided at night.

Better start early morning

HI !!

I visited Mussoorie / Doon Last Month & I travelled from Agra. Stayed In delhi at In Laws Place and then moved to Doon.

From Noida it is very easy, take the road which goes in front of Patparganj - the one that connects to Ghaziabad ( you can do that from Noida also I guess ). Once on the ghaziabad Meerut road, keep following signs towards Meerut - Haridwar. There are plenty of stops on the road. After Meerut there is a Cafe Coffee Day ( about 90 kms from Noida ).

Best place to stop however is Cheetal Resorts - Awesome place !! Food great , Always Full , Very Very huge Place ( It is exactly Mid way ) about 120 kms from Noida ( lot of signs on the road )

From Cheetal leave towards Haridwar / Doon. There will be a bye pass just when you enter Roorkee. This road leads to Doon / Mussoorie. From here onwards you will start seeing the hills. Very nice ride from here upto Doon ( about 1 hr or 70 kms ). Traffic is Normal.

Once you reach Doon, you can spend some time here ( loads of markets / eating places ). Once you are done get on the Rajpura road and go straight up and you will be on the Musoorie Road. ( It takes 45 minutes from Doon - Mussoorie )

As far as travelling at night is concerned I would not recommend it with yr GF. I travelled during the night but then there were 4 cars togethere ( so no problem ) . When I travel with wifey I prefer to go in the day time. I would suggest you to leave in the wee hrs ( after 5 AM ) which will get you in Doon by 9 - 10. Spend a few hrs in Doon and then head towards Mussoorie ( around Lunch time )

Places to stay in Mussoorie - Depends really on yr Budget -

Expensive Budget -
Jaypee ( Look no further ) 14 - 18k 2days 3 nights
Claridges Nabha Palace - 11 k - 2 days 3 nights ( good place, very very peaceful , friendly atmosphere , I stayed Here and loved It !!! )

Mid Budget -

Fort Resorts - Ok Ok Place
Shipra Hotel - Mall road - Good for the price !!

Best place to visit when in Mussoorie- Mall road - great place , loads of modern fast food joints, you will feel as if you are not on a hillstation. Very nice place to spend good time.

Do go to Kempti Falls - Nice drive from Mussoorie ( Very Very Sceninc ) But Drive Carefully

If you are planning for Mussoorie for 2 days, I think you can go to Dhanaulti etc too

Roads are pathetic these days on this route, specially near Mujaffarnagar byepass. I went to Rishikesh 10 days ago.
One more thing, being U.P. you will find all types of morons on this road.
Do not cross 90-100 km/ hr, how tempted you become.
You will find potholes, tractors, tongas, cyclists & even fruit sellers encroaching the road (BTW NH-58 )
Do not stop at any dhaba on this route, stop at CHEETAL GRAND only between doon & noida.
Leave noida at 5 am because u will reach roorkee by 8:30 - 9:00 am & thus avoid slow moving vehicles in GZB, Modinagar & Mjfrngr
20 kms past roorkee u can speed up in between!

Yup ,one of the best places to eat/chill out while travelling on this route.

If you are planning for Mussoorie for 2 days, I think you can go to Dhanaulti etc too

Dhanaulti is awesome.....the roads are bad but its worth it ,am sure you`ll love the place.

I went to Mussorie during about a fortnight back. While going to Mussorie, I took the Noida-Meerut-Mujjafarnagar-Roorkee-Haridwar-Rishikesh-Chamba-Dhanaulti-Mussorie route.

I started from Noida at 6 AM and reach Dhanaulti at 3 PM, stayed there for a night, left in the morning to Mussorie. Stayed there a night, next day left for Dehradun-Chhutmalpur-Roorkee and then same route back to Delhi.

Roads are in bad condition, you will find many miniature water-falls on the roads, and umpteen land-slides. Make sure you are taking a vehicle with high ground-clearance. My Getz got scrapped at the bottom many times.

dadu, your profile says you are based in Bangalore, right. How often you have travelled on UP roads to make such sweeping statements.

I drive a lot on these roads and at all hours. Slow moving traffic, people with no traffic sense, animals on roads are all sure there, but safety had never been an issue.

Having travelled on those routes extensively for many years and having myself escaped facing armed dacoits on a Delhi-Mussorie trip.

We were in a group and the bus driver saw them on a jeep approacing, armed and had to reverse the bus for quite some distance in the dead of the night till we met few other buses and everyone stopped there, until escorted by a police jeep.

You havent experienced it does not mean it doesnt happen. Better to be safe than sorry.
