I need some route advice on my upcoming trip. We are planning a trip to Mahabaleshwar from Bangalore on out Fortuner AT.

I have two options
1) Start 24th Dec after 2.00 PM
2) Start 25th early morning 25th around 4.00/5.00 AM.

Google suggests 3 routes
R1) Bangalore - Davangere - Hubbali - Belagavi - Satara - Mahabaleshwar
R2) Bangalore - Hosapete - VIjaypura - Vita - Satara - Mahabaleshwar.

If I take the Option 1), I will have to make a stay somewhere in between. What are my best options ?

I would suggest to start early on any day around 4 to 4.30 am if you want to reach Mahabaleshwar the same day, it may take around 13-14 hrs from Bangalore at the max. If you want take a halt suggest to do it at Belgavi and move out early morning next day to avoid the Kolhapur 2 wheeler traffic. I would recommend the R1 route as its the shortest and fastest.
R2 has some bad roads and few ghats between Vijapura and Satara and again the ghat road to Mahabaleshwar.

Just did a Bangalore - Mahabaleshwar run. As suggested by you and many folks offline, for the onward journey we took the Bangalore - Davangere - Kolhapur- Satara - Wai route. This route is good upuntil Belgavi. Lot of construction work between the Belgavi and Satara.

On the Kolhapur 2 wheeler traffic, its like they pop out of everywhere.

On return, we took deviation from Satara and took the Satara - Vita - Vijapura - Hospete route. The stretch between Vita to Vijapura is very bad. I would not suggest this route for night drive.
