Hey civicsense
Thanks for the update on the route. I will be travelling on some portions of the route in next few days. I think it will be very useful. Of the below 2routes which you would recommend, more distance doesnot matter to me but i want to travel fast & consume less time.
a. Mettur>Bhavani>Tiruchengode>Namakkal>trichy
b. Mettur>Mecheri>Omalur>Salem>Namakkal>trichy

I did not take route b above, but Mettur-Bhavani section has bad roads and the truck traffic on this route will also slow you down.

to go to palani from Bangalore, stick to NH7 all the way till vedasnadur, this comes after 50-55km after Karur. From there you have to take a exit. Logically you will take a right. From there till palani is about 47 km. Road is very good except say 2-4 km. dont take palani-bhavani-toppur route, it is very unpredicatable. it is 2 lane state highway and villages on either side.

On NH7 stick to your lane and dont overspeed even though the surface is good because you will find people coming on same lane from opposite direction.

Thats very true. I saw two accident scenes during my journey of which one was certainly a case of a truck coming in the wrong side of the median. One needs to be very alert on all these newly sprung 4-lane highways. There are many a driver who is utterly unaware of how to use them wisely, and equally many who dont care a damn!

Hi,

I am planning to go to Palani and Kodai from Bangalore by 1st week of December. Has anyone been in this route recently? From what I see Mettur-Bahavani was bad last year. Is it still the same?

Take the GQ all the way till Perindurai. Most of 4L work is complete and hence the need to by-pass Salem may not be all the accute.

+1 to that. And the Kondalampatti junction at Salem and the small stretch of 2L has also been by-passed now, so it is a breeze all the way!

If you are doing to Kodai first, then go via Dindigul/Vatalagundu and then descend down to Palani from the other side

Which is the best route to Palani from Bangalore? Google maps suggests the below routes. Please update with the road condition as well, if you have taken these routes recently.

2)Bangalore - Salem - Karur - Aravakurichi - Pallapatti - Idayakoattai - Oddanchathiram - Palani - 405Kms

Route 1 should be your preferred option.Roads are excellent throughout.Went on the route a couple of weeks back.Exit NH47 at Perundurai and drive straight to Kangayam via Chennimalai. At Kangayam, past the bus stand(on your right) continue straight towards Dharapuram and onwards to Palani. Its one straight road. From Perundurai, you should be in palani in approx 2hrs time.

To add to what Ranjit said, look for the Coimbattore exit at Salem. About 80km from Salem you should the exit for Perundurai. Its very clearly marked.

At Perundurai you should ask for Kangeyam road and you should reach Kangeyam in half an hour. There you should hit a very prominent cross. Left is for Karur, right for Palladam and straight to Dharapuram.
