You can instead do perundurai-kangeyam-dharapuram. The route is shorter and good.

We go to Palani every now and then on this route. Wanted to be on roads with dividers for longer since we plan to reach there after midnight.

@ampere - Now the situation has changed and we should most likely meet at Coimbatore. So there is a chance we may not have to use the dharapuram road. Thanks for the suggestions and I will update if we use the Arvakurichi-Dharapuram road.

I did Aravakuruchi - Dharapuram road a couple of weeks back on my way to and back from Guruvayoor and the roads are in excellent shape. Excellent wide SH.

re: Bangalore to Palani : Route Queries

Need assistance on the best route to Palani from Bangalore, would prefer to take the non toll road via Rayakotai to begin with and then the best route as anyone would suggest.

Also planning to visit Silent valley from there, any pointers to accomodation there would help.

I took the below route a year back and it was very good then.
Bangalore - Salem - Bhavani - Perundurai - Kangayam - Dharapuram - Palani - 383 Kms

The best route as per me is not Dharapuram, but NH7. Salem-Dindigul-Palani.
If you want to take the Non-toll roads:

Attibele-Rayakottai-Palacode-Omalur-Sankari-Thiruchengode-Dharapuram-Palani.

Amp, Dindugul to Palani is rough- the culverts are all being rebuilt, and the temporary roads that you get down cannot be called roads.

So NH209 is not in a good state? I thought was very good all the way. Then its information indeed.

In that case the better road may be exit at Arvakurichi-Mulanur-Dharapuram-Palani.

Some how I would still prefer NH7 to NH47.

It is only temporary- work is almost over and the wait is till the curing time of the concrete.

Aravakurichi-Dharapuram is smooth tarmac with very less traffic. Dharapuram-Palani should be the same.

touching erode or salem. The road in feb 2007 was good and reduced
the journey by atleast 20 kms.Can I take the same route even now?

3.What are the road conditions between Krisnagiri and Dharmapuri? It was
bad then (in Feb 2007)

5.Is there any shell pumps on the route or Reliance A-one plazas on the
route ?

6.What are the good places to take a break for food and rest in between

At Palani:
1.What is a good place to stay?I heard that Hotel Rajalakshmi opp to Palani bus stand is a good place.have any body been there?

2.Is it worth taking the car to the hill top?How will be the drive.I am with a family of 5?

Thanks,
1. Krishnagiri-Dharamapuri-Salem-Bhavani-Perundurai-Kangeyam-Dharapuram-Palani

2. Dindigul will be longer by around 30km compared to the route above

3. Road between Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri is in good condition. Covered the stretch last week. Thoppur ghat road has deteriorated now but still manageable.

5. Others can throw light on this as I fill up gas at BPCL or HPCL. By the way, point no. 4 is missing?

6. A lot of options for food. Starting from Shoolagiri, Krishnangiri, Thoppur, and Salem, nowadays, road travelers are spoiled for options.

re: Bangalore to Palani : Route Queries

Thanks Arunjosie, Ampere, Ajithbr, Ramzsys, Gokrish. Took the Rayakottai route and had intended the Omalur route but somewhere missed that and reached the normal tolled highway and at Thoppur took the right turn towards mettur bhavani route and at perundurai took the deviation towards Kangeyam dharapuram and Palani. Total distance was only 353 kms from Kamanahalli to Palani. The roads were pretty good except for few sections after Thoppur. From Perundurai onwards its a drivers delight.

re: Bangalore to Palani : Route Queries

Would it still make sense to go through Dindigul or would someone who frequents these roads advice me to take the Bangalore - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri - Perundurai - Dharapuram - Palani route?

I normally take a break at Coimbatore and take the Coimbatore - Pollachi - Udumalapet route, but this time, i plan to drive straight to Palani from Bangalore.

I know its coming a little late in the day for my travel tomorrow morning, but will appreciate any help please.

I would always prefer Perundurai-Kangeyam-Dharapuram as the Dindigul-Palani usually sees more traffic.

re: Bangalore to Palani : Route Queries

Planning for a Palani trip on 24th Oct from Bangalore. i am inclined to take the Perundurai - Kangeyam - Dharapuram - Palani route. Anyone has an idea about the most recent road conditions on this road? I will be driving this route around 4AM -6 AM time.
