Update Between Bangalore - Shimoga
All the potholes have been filled except some potholes at Tumkur bypass.
Also some bumpy ride between Bhadravathi - Shimoga due to 4 - lane conversion.
The road is good all the way till shimoga

ahh this is a relief!

there were many bad potholes which were many in numbers!

Now the Haveri bypass also bisects the Haveri-Sirsi road, but I don't recollect seeing either an intersection or an underpass in the bypass, but am sure that there must be a turn off in the bypass also, which goes to the west of the Haveri town in the South-North direction (and the Sirsi road should bisect it in the East-West direction)

Thanks Kumar. but I just went though the google maps to see the haveri bypass and the road entering the city. It appears quite easy to miss in the night times. Is there any kind of indication on road before entering Haveri city?

Went to wikimapia, route looks quite clear. After getting into town, you will first see a BPCL Pure for Sure petrol pump to your right, and then come to the only junction with a cop stand in the middle. That is where you turn left. You know you have missed the turn if you cross the bus stand (on the left after the turn off point). You may also notice that the wikimapia images of the Haveri bypass are old (incomplete), and you will see the Hangal/Sirsi/SH2 road cutting it outside Haveri town.

Wikimapia - Let's describe the whole world!

Check the wikimapia link above

There is no *official* turnoff to Sirsi on the Haveri bypass. You have to enter Haveri town. Or cross the bridge on the bypass and take a sharp U-turn, do some mild offroading on a reasonably steep decline and get onto the Sirsi road.

Exactly. If we continue on the byepass you'll see the sirsi road below the bridge hrag mentioned.

In my earlier trip to Goa, I had taken the byepass thinking that I'll get a left turn to Sirsi road. I turned around and went into the city to take the sirsi road. Offroading that incline was too much for my Civvy.

Visited Goa via Haveri-Sirsi-Mirjan-Karwar route on 9th April. Bad NH-4 between Chitradurga-Haveri due to multiple diversions and big bumps. It took around 7 hours to reach Haveri from Bangalore at good speeds on good part of the road. Haveri-Sirsi-Mirjan route is good, maintained around 60KMPH except for the ghat sections. NH-17 from Mirjan to Goa in good condition to reach speeds of 90KMPH at various places.

Returened by NH-4A via Belgaum, entire road in good condition now, no major potholes except for the three bridges in between, but they are managable. Happy to see very less mining trucks in the morning time (started at around 6AM from Goa). We were 4 people in Santro but it could move without any trouble. Overall road conditions are good.

Thanks a lot for the guidence from you all guys....

Are you talking of the following route?:
Panjim - Ponda - Londa - Khanapur - Belgaum

Any idea how is Dharwad - Alnavar - Londa route?

akroy : Any idea how is Dharwad - Alnavar - Londa route?
Dharwad - Haliyal : approx 33 km. 60% of it has been brought up to match the standards of many other Karnataka roads : Re-surfaced, and un-marked double speed breakers before & after each village en-route

Haliyal - Alnavar : Good

Alnavar - Londa : was good, as done more than a year back. Been a few years since it was done up, but is still a decently good stretch, I would say.

Had been to Goa over the weekend and took the Bangalore - Hubli - Karwar - Goa and Return route. 6+1 people in a Tavera. Did it in 13 Hours to Goa and 13.5 Hours in return with a about 2-3 stops each way.

Bangalore to Chitradurga = Amazing roads
Chitradurga to Haveri = Ok roads with no markings and lot of Jumps
Haveri to Hubli (Bypass) = Good and Marked
Hubli to Ankola Cross = Amazing as always (except for the mining trucks)
Ankola Cross to Panjim = Good Roads (except for some small streches near Karwar)

The trip was amazing and I would did not take the Mirjan or the Simoga route cause there were oldies with us and NH was a good option then the state highways.

any idea on the Belgaum -goa route via NH4a

I took this route last April and was pretty good except for some bridges. I am planning to drive to Goa in May, any updates on this route would be appreciated.

Just read Post 428

Abhi

If the road except for the bridges is good, then why do our members not recomend it.This question is out of curiosity. Also i guess the travel time will be greatly reduced
