As per the feedback from Ravi and all others; I made up my mind to go via Shimoga covering Jog falls in my onward Journey. Would like to cover atleast half my journey before sun and reach Jog by morning. If roads are good I would choose the same route back else via Huballi.
You can reach Shimoga for breakfast around 7AM at Jewel rock (290km) If you leave 2AM sharp from Bangalore. and JOG by 10AM (100km) with 1 hour breakfast break. You can target Kumta for lunch at Panduranga International by 2PM (100km) after Jog (30min) and sharavati valley(10min). Panaji would be 180km from there which you can cover in 4 hours easily. Timings I am giving considering safe speed :)
Regards,
Ravi.
Thanks Ravi. I am not to speed beyond 80-100 since travelling with family (offcourse my little son makes me a lot more responsible). Hope travel till Shimoga would not be a problem in dark, could you please verify the below road map and correct me accordingly.
Bangalore > Tumkur > Gubbi > Tiptur > Arasikere > Banavar > Kadur > Birur> Tarikere > Shimoga >
Ayanur > Anandapuram > Sagar > Talaguppa > Jog falls > Mavingundi > Manki(NH17) > Honavar > Haldipur > Kumta >
Mirjan > Madangeri > Ankola > Sakkalbert > Karwar > Paloem > Mashen > Poinguinim > Concolim > Margao > Panaji
Incase I reach Shimoga bit early, is there any other alternative for a decent breakfast before but near Jog?
I might keep disturbing you guyz since its my first trip to Goa or North Karnataka and we are very exited and counting down to September 18th. :D
Everything is fine except Manki(NH17) which don't come in this route and Manki(NH17) comes between honnavara and bhatkal.
Sakkalbert has TYPO I feel as I have not heard such place there. 70km from Shimoga is Sagar where you can get decent breakfast in couple of hotels next to highway in sagar town.
For Lunch Kumta: Panduranga international, Ankola: Hotel Sapna, 5km from Ankola there is quiet ok ok Kamat hotel next to IOC. in karwar there are few.
Ravi.
agree: Mostly my mistake while capturing linking the path through Google Maps, removed Manki(NH17) and Sakkalbert from the trip map.
I shall target Sagar for breakfast @ 8AM and Shimoga if we get delayed(let my co travellers have a sound sleep). For lunch, shall plan Ankola or Kumta depedning on the time.
Its lot of info Ravi. BTW just wanted to see whether any landmarks to be noted to avoid missing turns on the way to Shimoga from Bangalore being travelling in dark.

Hi Jacs,
please note that the road from Tumkur onwards is not a 4 lane road.
it is a normal state highway mostly 2 lanes. Wee hour drives on such roads should be carefully done as drivers might take some winks while at steering wheel. Ensure that you have slept enough and is fresh. generally fatigue creeps in after first one or two hours of drive especially at wee hours.
Secondly ensure that your car does not have any issues (what so ever)
Even during day time finding a good garage is difficult in these semi-rural/rural areas, forget about mid nights.
there are small villages on the way, many of these have speed breakers / rumblers, also most of these have small road dividers, sometimes not visible during nights. Watchout for such dividers.
you would be required to navigate mainly at (1) Tumkur town (2) shivamogga bypass (3) sagar town other than think i think, most of the other road is pretty straight forward.
drive safe, enjoy your trip, post your experience.
Thanks for the guidance StarVegabond. Shall take care of these things in my travel.
Shall ping once again few days before travel to see the condition of road :).
Hey Jacs, will look forward to your report. I will also be driving down to Goa in the last week of September. Have a safe and enjoyable trip bro.
I second what star vegabond says, there is bypass road for bhadravati too. Careful about road humps, there are few unexpected local made ones.
Bhadravati bypass is left turn while staright go to bhadravati rown and it is same for Shimoga town too.
Not much rain left in this reainy season except max. 1 or 2 weeks rains from now in next 1 month. So road would be in same condition as it is now.
Ravi.
Thanks Guys....I am joting down these points in my travel plan.

Did banglore - NH4 upto Kittur, then Khanapur, LOnda, anmod, ponda, vasco yesterday.
Covered 635 km in 10 hrs. left from from big bazar old madras road at 0600 reached vasco at 1600.
Car; Dzire VDI with yokos.
passengers: wife and dog.
Reason for choosing this route was to spend shortest time on road.
observations:
1. Haveri to c'durga remains poor. work going on but very slowly. did this 150 odd kms in 3 hrs. rest of Nh4 incl hubli bypass is great.
2. Kittur khanapur is rough 15 km 25 minutes.
3. Khanapur to Londa wonderful road lovely twisties.
4. Londa onwards 10 km great road. then the road breaks up for 14 km till the border. This is really rough road 2 /1 gear stuff. The water and mine lorries are the cause.
5. After this the ghats are OK. with potholes everynow and then. Needs careful negotiation.
6. Once on the plains the goan roads are good as always but narrow.
Conclusion. time spent on road is marginally shorter than the karwar huibli nh4 route. distance is 50 kms less than the above route. very scenic and apart from the 14 km a pleasure to drive.
Caution. keep a lookout for empty mine lorries zipping up the corners.
