Bangalore - Chennai route query

Good day,
I plan to drive from Bangalore to Chennai in the next month or two. A colleague suggested taking the Hosur road, but was not sure of exact distance, towns and deviations (if any).

Can you please suggest a good route, driving suggestions, deviations, etc..? Also, i plan to start early morning. So, please suggest stops for breakfast and lunch as well.

I will be taking this route for the first time, so suggestions will be very helpful.

Pls search the forum, you will get a lot info specific to this query. I have replied to javed on the route vellore, pls read that as well.

Anyway the route is :

bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri (on NH7, turn left on NH46) - Vaniyambadi - Vellore - Walajahpet - kanchipuram - Poonamallee- Chennai (it is part of the Mumbai - Chennai GQ which is complete)

distance of around 350km. Early morning Bangalore to Chennai outskirts can be done easily in 4 hours.

I did the Blore Chennai road last week. Abt 330 kms from Blore.
Takes about 4-5 hrs depending on the driving. Beautiful road throughout.

Did Bangalore - Chennai via the GQ on Sunday night. Started from the Airport around 19:30, took the Koramangala ring road, joined Hosur Road and was at Reliance Sulagiri by 20:40. Filled diesel (39/lit). 15 minute break.
Toll plaza 1: Krishnagiri at 21:10 Rs. 25
Toll Plaza 2: Vaniyambadi at 21:49 Rs. 35
Stopped at Motel Rosin (recommended here by someone in another thread) at 22:00 between Vaniyambadi and Ambur for a cup of tea. 15 minute break.
Toll Plaza 3: Pallikonda at 22:43 Rs. 45
Toll Plaza 4: Samudram (just after Walajapet) at 23:16 Rs. 25
Toll Plaza 5: Sriperumbudur ar 00:00 Rs. 30
Another 45 minutes to reach my destination.

That should give you a rough idea of the time. It was pouring cats and dogs between Vaniyambadi and Pallikonda. and remember this was night so traffic was less and even more so because of the rain.

Beautiful roads out there. The last time I managed chennai outskirts to hosur in well under 3 hours. While going from bangalore, all you need to remember is turn left onto NH46 at krishnagiri.
