swift will do just fine. take this route:
bangalore > srirangapatna > hunsur > tittimatti > gonikoppal > virajpet > kadnur (just outskirts of v.pet, make a left) > kakabbe > kings cottage

road till virajpet is really good. only last stretch of maybe 25-30kms is bad (in patches) after the heavy rains this year.

Thanks NIP, really helpful. Will update once i complete the trip.

NIP,
Would you by any chance know the state of the road to Tata Coffee's 'Plantation Trails' homestay at Polibetta?
I believe I will have to follow your route all the way till Titlimati on SH88A and then turn right on a smaller road for about 15 km.

Jaggu,
Have you done the trip yet?

Thanks,

nope...its been a while since i've been to polybetta. but after the rains this year, most interior coorg roads have taken a beating. about directions, just reach tittimatti and ask for the right turn. you can miss it if you're doing good speed...

Jaggu, please check if Optra can cover that road. Please!

Thanks NIP. I will check with Tata themselves about the Titlimati and Gonikoppal roads.

Also can someone please point out the best petrol bunks enroute?

Thanks,

Why take the CRV when you can take the DDis !

Rudra...what road are you talking about...bangalore to kakkabbe !? i can assure you your optra can easily make it...its blacktop all the way...only a few rough patches after the heavy rains.

yeah thats what the cottage gal also informed.

Well i dont know his name but he is based in sidapur. He has a garage on the sidapur madikeri route and evrytime there are around 5 vehicles being done up.

I stayed in Palace Estate start of Nov.Good Place and awesome scenery & food. Did the trek too.Roads are quite allright except for some bumpy raods here and there. We did the journey in 4.5- 5 hrs

Checked with the Tata guys: Gonikoppal - Polybetta road is a better bet than Titlimati Polybetta. Generally Coorg's internal roads have taken a beating due to the monsoons but patchwork repair has started since.

well so if you're gonna hit gonikoppal, you can tank up at the reliance bunk there. its just half km off the main road (ponnampet rd.). i usually go there. you can tank up on shell on your exit from bangalore and tank up at gonikoppal reliance for your next fill.
