Mumbai to Ahmednagar how to go?

Need to go to Ahmednagar, but dont know how to go. Searched alot in google but to no avail.

Can anyone please help out and answer a few questions?
  1. Which route to take? (I think ill have to go via Pune or is it? Google map shows that i need to catch NH50 first and then NH222)
  2. How many kms is it, after googling i have found it to be 300kms
  3. How much time does it take to reach there
  4. How is the road
  5. Any good food place not worth misisng.
Thanks

Busa,

Take the expressway. When you approach the Pune side toll booth - keep extreme left and exit from any 1 of the 2 left most lanes - the road will take you towards the old Mum-Pune Road.

Once you reach the junction of the Old Mum-Pune road , go straight and keep on going straight. you will go through Chakan and cross Bajaj - till you hit a junction with a signal. Go straight from here too - and after about 30 mins you should hit the Pune nagar road (there is a BP pump on the right).

Take a left on that junction and carry on towards Nagar.

Call me if you did not understand

hi - i have done the mumbai - nagpur route once so dont have much details. but can try. We exited the expressway and drove through Chakan to go towards Ahmednagar. while coming from nagpur, i go from ahmednagar to pune via shirur bypass and reach the expressway through chakan and talegaon. Hope this helps!

P.S.> the roads are excellent. Stop in Cafe Farhat in Ahmednagar. Excellent steward there. Great service. keeps suggesting things off the menu even though you are done!! :-)

I remember something from my Pune-Aurangabad jaunts:

1. It took some 5.5/6 hrs by Volvo from Pune to Aurangabad which is further ahead - Ahmednagar should take half that.
2. The Nagar Road as its called, was mostly upgraded and motorable, with some minor exceptions as it approached Pune. And significantly slow moving traffic approaching Pune.
3. Smiles Stop/Smiles Stone (I think) on the left heading towards Ahmednagar, roughly 1.5 - 2 hours after exiting Pune.

Re: Mumbai to Ahmednagar how to go?

Friends, any updated on the road condition between Mumbai and Ahmednagar? Planning to travel on this route tomorrow. Which route would be better by way of quality of road and time taken?

1) Mumbai - Thane - Murbad - Alephata - Ahmednagar (NH 222)
or
2) Mumbai - Lonavala - Talegaon - Chakan - Ranjangaon - Shirur - Ahmednagar

We would be travelling by bikes. Considering its around 250 kms, how long would it take to reach? Would it be possible to return the same day? Or would it be advisable to stay back and return the next day?

Kalyan-Alephata route is not all that great especially post Malshej.

I would prefer going via Pune as you have the 4laned road from Pune all the way till Nagar.

I too would recommend the second option since it is mostly a 4 lane road. The only part I am not sure of is Talegaon to Ranjangaon regarding whether it is a 4 lane or 2 lane road.

Re: Mumbai to Ahmednagar how to go?

Thanks a lot @shipnil and @ranjitp1

Given that we would be going by bikes, how much time would it take to reach Ahmednagar if we leave by 7 in the morning?

Time taken is purely based on your riding style, but an approximate should be as follows:

Pune Nagar should take you around 3-3.5hrs.

Panvel Pune budget for another 2-2.5hrs.

Re: Mumbai to Ahmednagar how to go?

I plan to take this Powai to Ahmednagar route this weekend.

https://goo.gl/maps/msnEL

I will be travelling alone and plan to leave at 11pm in the night and reach around 4am and have the following questions :

1) Is the route suggested by google maps above the best one?
2) Is it safe to drive alone on this route at night alone?
3) What is the road codition considering it's monsoons?

You may want to double check on the Chakan route. For late nights, I would prefer route via the city.

The Chakan route although an alternative is not a good option mainly because it passes through a lot of petty villages/small towns right from Talegaon.
Secondly this is an industrial corridor and being single carriageway there are loads and loads of trucks including long container trucks that they will make overtaking a herculean task.

At nights truck traffic will only increase and hence I would suggest taking the city route.
I have taken this route to do Ahmadnagar-Pune on a Saturday evening and realised how easy the City route would have been both in terms of the time consumed as well the peace of mind.

Ideally you can take this option:
Expressway-Pune Bypass-Wakad-Bremen Chowk-Nigdi-Ammunition Factory-Holkar Bridge-Yewarawada - Viman Nagar and onto Ahmadnagar road.

This is quite a regular road that I have taken to traverse from Hinjewadi to Kalyaninagar and barring weekday peak hour commute you should manage this with ease.
Here is the Googlemaps link.
