Tirupati - Pune route query

I am planning a Bangalore - Tirupati drive and as usual, team-bhp had good information on the route and distance. Thanks for that.

Since I also plan to visit Pune, I was thinking perhaps I can continue the trip from Tirupati to Pune. From one of the google results, I understand that I have to come back to Bangalore to drive to Pune.

Are there are other options for the Tirupati - Pune drive? If so, can you please provide detailed information on route, distance, road conditions, hotels, etc..? Thank you.

If you want to bypass Bangalore en route Tirupathi, you can also turn off NH4 at Chitradurga and go via Challakere, Pavagada and Roddham to reach Punukonda on NH7. From Penukonda, cut across NH7 to go via Puttaparthi to Kadiri where you join NH205 coming north from Ananthapur. Take NH205 and you will go staright to Madanapalle and Tirupathi. Please keep in mind that the roads from Chitradurga to Kadiri are small district roads and may not be safe at night. Once you leave Chitradurga, there are no good facilities.

If you want to make better use of the GQ suggest you drive down the GQ till Nelamangala and then take the road towards Yelahanka and onwards toward Hoskote.

From Hoskote you take NH4 towards Kolar-Mulbagal-Palmaner-Chittoor and then take a left towards Tirupathi.

The only question is the road between Nelamangala - Yelahanka - Hoskote ? Is this road decent enough, or is it better that he takes the outer ring road at Peenya ?

Pune to Tirupati

Planning to do Pune to Tirupati by road 2nd week sept 2008. Need route and stopover suggestions. The ride will be Pajero 2.8 GLS and driving capabilities are good (recently did Bombay-Bhilwara in 12 hrs).

The easiest route would be NH4 till Sira, after which you can turn off to Madhugiri - Gauribidanur - Chikkaballapur - Sidlaghatta - Chintamani - Madanapalle - Vayalpad - Pileru - Tirupati

Good roads until Sira. Don't know until Chikkaballapur. Chikkaballapur - Madanapalle is OK if you have a Pajero or any other SUV. A car will take a beating. The last time I took this road, the road surface mysteriously vanished once I crossed over from AP into KA.

Madanapalle to Tirupati is via the lovely NH205 - great roads, next to zero facilities between towns and the random bad stretch of potholes. But nothing to worry about in an SUV.

You can also go from Tirupati via Hyderabad to Pune - shortest route. Route is as follows:
Tirupati-Rajampet-Cudappah-Panyam-Kurnool-Hyderabad-Zahirabad-Homnabad-Solapur-Bigvan-Pune.

Road from Dodballapur to Nelamangala is in very bad shape, as per tbhp-ian kutlee who went on it some weeks ago.
