its abt 170kms from mumbai.so thats a drive of abt 3-4hrs

take the NH17 to vadkhal naka via pen;then the costal highway to Murud, via alibag,Revdanda and Kashid.

around Murud:

nandgaon(9km)
its got a superb beach and a ganpati temple, where u shud find a lot of astrologers.
but there is no eatery or accomodation available here.

Kashid (18km):

if u want to get away from the crowds found on the other beaches ,its here that u shud be.
there is a fort and a temple on top of a summit.

route is a gr8 drive but not throughout...
mumbai-vadkhal= ok... watchout for speeding Qualis/Sumos,
vadkhal-alibaug = ok..
alibaug-revdanda= windy road passing thru a lot ot villages.. be alert
revdanda-kashid-mazgaon = pleasurable drive... road running parallel to the coast, wellmaintained road... speedup to ur hearts content and cars capacity... SPEED RUN ...
mazgaon-murud= narrow winding road... watchout for the RED speeding demons..the ST BUSES & their drivers...

as for eataries in Murud... if u wanna taste homecooked food (non-veg) suggest Patil's Inn or Tausalkars (on the beach road.... ask ne1 they'll guide)... the others r just a show off.... @ Patil's inn ask for sol-kadhi.. u'll njoy tht.. << if u drink then well vodka..with sol-kadhi... guys tht a personal fav...>>

do visit:
Janjira killa (drive further upto Rajapuri & then a boat ride) though theres nothing to c in the fort.. the drive to rajapuri & the boat ride r xciting... gr8 view of the sea enroute Murud-Rajapuri...
Janjira sea port (khora)....
Datta mandir atop the hill.... a motarable road (in bad shape though) to reach the temple... i recommend u view the sunset from this point...
if u have the time.. drive further to Agardanda etc... else just laze on the beach...

bye, have a nice trip....

I've undertaken this trip numerous times in many different vehicles. The road after Wadkhal isn't too smooth, but, the Kashid stretch is awesome. Be careful while driving in the Chaul area as the road is pretty narrow. ST buses and trucks may just pop up in front of you around any corner. IMO, Kashid is the best beach around that area, but, there aren't any good places to eat. Have a nice and safe journey.

Hi,
planning a trip to Kashid beach with follwoing route -

Vashi-Panvel-Karnala-Pen-Wadkal-Poinad-Ravadanda-Kashid.
Return route-
Kashid-Alibaug-Kihim-Kanakeshwar-Wadkal-Pen-Karnala-Panvel-Vashi.

My queries are-
1> journey from Wadkal-Revadanda can be covered via Alibaug (longer route) OR via Poinad.
2> not sure about kihim-kanakeshwar-wadkal route.

pls help. all suggestions welcome.

Guys, I'm reviving this thread as I'm going to Murud Janjira during the last weekend this month ie April 06.
Have booked a cottage at www.sandpiperresorts.com
Am planning to leave Sat morning and come back Mon eve.
Would like someone to suggest the best route both ways so that I could visit interesting places en-route.
Please also suggest good petrol pumps, landmarks and things to avoid.
Of course anyone interested in coming is welcome to join.

The best route you can take is the Panvel - Pen - Alibaug - Kashid - Murud route. Places to see - Kihim Beach, Alibaug Beach, Kashid Beach, Nandgaon and there's some Fort at Chaul (which I haven't seen).
There's an Indian Oil petrol pump just before you enter Alibaug - that's possibly the best one around.

Hey thanks for the advice Aditya
The trip was great inspite of the sultry weather and bad roads in some stretches.
Would be posting the details and pics soon.

just returned back from murud trip. i had changed my route and taken mumbai-expressway-kapoli-pen-alibag-murud due to heavy traffic jam on coastal route. the road from kapoli to pen is one of the worst roads in india: completely dug up all the way. do not ever divert to this road.
in murud stay away from horses which are let loose at night, its their mating season and they are uncontrolable. when you see any one running towards your vehicle dont stop to give way, but run away from the sopt. i stopped to give way and they crashed into my car smashing the windshield and damaging side fender fairing during their foreplay i think. any way murud trip has become costlier by 15k for me.
