Need help with route Hubli-Shimoga-Kodagu

Hey folks,

Need to know if the best route to Kodagu valley (Coorg) from Hubli is via Haveri-Honnali-Shimoga-chikmagloor-Salkeshpur??
How is the road condition of this route and how much time it would take if we start early from Hubli?
Any alternate route from time/road condition perspective?
Thanks

Suchet, check with Bunny - he recently did most of that route.

Do you want to go upto Sakleshpur only, or further ?

Route is correct till Chickmagalur. After that, you can go via Hassan and Arkalgud to join the Mysore-Madikeri road at Periyapatna and proceed. If you go via Sakleshpura, you will have to go via Sulya/Subramanya to get to Madikeri.

Instead of taking the Sulya route, Pls take the hassan - Arkalgud route. Not only the distance is shorter but also the roads / traffic are better.

Expect not so good roads from Piriyapatna to Madikeri but manageable in a car.

Thanks to all respondents for help.
How much time should I plan for this trip?
(Hubli to Madikeri) assuming that we hit the road around 7 am in the morning?

Hubli to Madiker - if you start by 7, you can reach by evening. Try not to stop en-route so will have sufficient time to get through the ghats in the later part of the journey.

Thanks once again, but need to know if the road condition is good.

One of the responses mentioned road is not good for the last part near Madikeri. How about rest of it?

Even i am planning a trip from Shimoga to Belgaum in April and have heard that the Shimoga - Honnali - Harihar road is in pathetic condition and its better to travel on the following route Shimoga - Sagar - Sirsi - Hubli road the distance will be about 30km more but its worth the extra kms.

Shimoga onwards you can take the route suggested by Abhi as follows in detail - Shimoga - Bhadravati - Tarikere - Chikmagalur - Belur - Hassan - Arkalgud - Ramanathpura - Khushalnagar - Madekeri

Any particular reason not to take the Hubli-Ankola-Mangalore-Puttur-Madikeri route? I guess the Mangalore-Puttur section is not very good. But then there are bad sections in other routes as well

This will be very long route and passing through ghats multiple times, taking even longer.

Route via Sagar, Shimoga-Hassan-Coorg appears to better and shorter.

One more query folks, in some of the other threads, it is mentioned that Kushalnagar to MAdikeri road condition is bad. Will Arkalgod - kodlipet-somvarpeth-madikeri be better?

Also from Hubli to MAdikeri via Sagar as suggested below is approx 570 km. Being a hilly area in Shimoga district, will 10 hours be good enough?

Hubli-shimoga-madikeri

I am getting conflicting reports from other threads. Is Shimoga via HArihar from Hubli advisable? (From Harihar-Honnali-Shimoga).

I have got some inputs from Shimoga to MAdikeri. A small query- should it be via Lingadahalli or KAdur?

Also will 10 hous be sufficent time from Hubli to MAdikeri via above route?

Pl. reply early - i start my travel this week-end.

Route via Honnali to himoga is in good condition. From Shimoga, proceed via Kadur to Hassan. 10 hours is doable, but you have to be real fast.
