Drive is quite aggressive, considering that you have to drive 400 kms from Delhi to Rudraprayag. Unless you leave Delhi early in the morning, it will be difficult for you to cross Rishikesh in decent time. Rishikesh to Rudraprayag is a stiff 5-6 hour drive, lengthened further by he heavy pilgrim traffic now that temples have reopened. Please remember that in many places Uttarakhand roads close after 8 pm.

Re: Planning Chopta-Tungnath Trek

Hi Guys,

I have 5-6 days starting 6th April 2012 for me to take a short trip to the hills. As usual, i went through many plan changes but have finally zeroed in on a schedule. I want to spend the time in the Chopta-Saari region and explore it properly. In this regard, i have a few questions:

1. are there any budget accommodations (village homestays would be perfect) around Chopta?

2. Other than the usual treks to Tungnath, Chandrashila and Deoriya Taal, what else can one do there?

3. Slightly away from Chopta, near Kanakchauri (35 kms from Rudraprayag is what i hear) is a Kartik Swami Temple. Does anyone have any info on this one? I have seen a few photographs and it looks stunning!

Thanks for the help in advance

Hey Guys,

any inputs on roads in this region! I'm planning a drive to these places (CharDham) and I may be going via Ukhimath-Chopta-Gopeshwar route. Any information around these regions would help.
Thank you.

My trip is postponed to the end of THIS month. So i will take inputs from you

roads have been battered by the rains but they should have started repairs already.

Sorry, I didnt mention the dates, my plan is mid of October, I've started gathering information on this since I will be driving from Bangalore. I will surely share information if I find from other sources and wait for you guys as well if you happen to travel before me. So far, the tentetive plan is to start by October 14 from Bangalore, so I may be there around October 18-19 or so.

Guys,

We are planning to drive from Delhi to Chopta sometime end of this month. We will stop for a night stay at rishikesh and then drive to chopta the next morning.

We are taking an Innova with 6 on board. Also, I have not driven much in mountains but have a decent idea on how to go about this.I am also a good driver.

Wanted to understand if it would be safe for me to do so? How aggressive can the driving be and the road conditions? We don't want to hire a cab.

Please advise. Will really appreciate any help on this.

Re: Planning Chopta-Tungnath Trek

I am also planning this trip for the 15 August long 2 weekend with taking 12 august friday off from work. I have a few questions. It will be 2 men. We will be leaving from Delhi.

Can we do this on a Honda Activa? We will travel light. Combined bag or 2 small bags. Are rains expected?

Can a A-Star automatic make it? Again 2 men. Travelling with full set. Full luggage and all.
