Delhi - Agra - Fatehpur Sikri : Route Queries

I will be travelling with my better half to Delhi to attend a friend's wedding. Am also planning to take in agra and fatehpur sikri. Now my questions are :-

1) Can I cover the Taj, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri on the same day?
2) How long does it take to reach agra if I hire a taxi at Delhi?
3) At what time should I leave Delhi?
4) Places to eat in Agra? (Strictly Vegetarian Food)
5) Any other tips/suggestions?

Cheers!!

Note to MODS - I searched the Forum but could not find the answers to my specific questions. If any thread exists with the above info, please merge this.

1. Yes, a little hectic but can be done.

2. 4-5 Hours unless the cab driver thinks he is on a F1 track.

3. Early morning, sooner the better to beat the mid-day heat.

4. No idea, should be plenty.

5. Don't forget to take your camera, start very early, visit Taj first and the rest can follow.

Yes you can, though will be a bit hectic. Start over from Fatehpur sikri, then Agra fort and Raj at last.

2) How long does it take to reach agra if I hire a taxi at Delhi?
5-6 Hours comfortably

3) At what time should I leave Delhi?
Anytime sooner in morning, its better.

4) Places to eat in Agra? (Strictly Vegetarian Food)
Well in Agra, it's on developing stage now-a-days. Last time we had the food in TDI mall near to Taj. Food was good and reasonable priced. However, the hotel we stayed in was nice and incorporated a roof top restro. Mind it, we too had the vegetarian food only.

5) Any other tips/suggestions?
TAJ IS CLOSED ON FRIDAY. Do plan your eternity according to the same.
Enjoy your trip,

Cheers

Here are your Answers mate !! The first 3 points covered below -

Yes, you can cover the Taj, Agra Fort & Fatehpur Sikri in 1 day.
Try leaving Delhi at 5:30 in the morning, You will take shortcut direct to Fatehpur Sikri once you reach Mathura. The driver would know the route .

You would be at Sikri before 9 if you leave at the above mentioned time. Spend 2 hrs Max here.

It's an hour's drive from Fatehpur Sikri to Agra. You should be here by 12. Visit the Fort, takes about an hour. Then the Taj around 3 - 4. It takes 2 hours approximatley.

Places to eat Vegetarian in Agra -

Deepee ( Known as Dasaprakash also ), situated next to Ashoka / Yamuna View Hotel on Mall Road. 3 kms from the Taj. South Indian food ( 500 rs for 2 )

Park Restaurant - Located at the start of Sadar Market. ( 400 Rs. For 2 ) All Cuisines.

TIPS -

My advise would be to forget going to Fatehpur Sikri and taking a Taxi. It's not worth visiting the place in such humid weather. Instead visit the Taj & Fort and come to Agra by Train.

Shatabdi Express (AC ) leaves Delhi at 6 - 6:30 AM in the morning and is here by 8:30 ( Per Ticket in AC CC is 400 rs I think ) Leave Agra by Shatabdi in the night ( 8:30 ) and in Delhi by 10:30. 12 hours is more than enough in Agra. Visit the Fort first, then the Taj, Kill some time in the Malls. Watch a movie if you have loads of time. goto Sadar market and then towards the station which is next to Sadar market ( 2 kms ).

Taj is closed on Fridays.

PM me if you need my number.

The trip is scheduled for mid-august. Sorry I forgot to mention that in my post. Will Delhi be very humid even then? Also it seems you are not very impressed with Fatehpursikri . All the reviews I have read of the place say its a must visit.

And regarding the mode of travel, if I drop Sikri then I will surely travel by train. I hope travelling within Agra wont be an issue.

Sikri is a wonderful place for a first time visitor. The only reason I was saying no was because I thought it was very soon and currently the weather is HOT !!

August will be a lovely time with good rains. A nice time to visit.

Travelling within Agra is not much of a problem - Autos are plenty.

Hotel recommendation in Agra?

Hi Team,
Am planning a trip with family to Agra in the 2nd half of april and will be there for 2 nights. Can anyone suggest a decent AC accomodation within about 1-1.5 -2k range. The travel portals are giving too many options and the reviews on the various sites are sometimes confusing. Would like to have some reco from the team.
Thanks.

^^
Can't help - it has to be coordinated with my son's school holidays. Asked some guys in delhi and I was told that it will be hot no doubt, but will not be unbearable, that's why we're taking a chance.

There are mainly two parts of the town. Old Agra and New Agra. The Taj and the fort are in Old Agra, which is pretty congested. The new Agra is a place where recently expansion of the city has happened. I cannot places to eat as they are very specific to the area of stay and also my knowledge of hotels is really OLD! There were some decent hotels in the vicinity of "Sanjay Palace" and Sadar Baazar, which you can try out. I used know about a place called "Rambabu Ke Parathe".

But I am not sure even if that place exists any more !

re: Delhi - Agra - Fatehpur Sikri : Route Queries

Visiting Fatehpur Sikri & Taj Mahal from NOIDA tomorrow by own car (same day return). Lots of useful info in this thread, but still have a few queries - hoping to get answer to. I am planning to take the following route:

NOIDA - YEW - (via Mathura) - Fatehpur Sikri (hoping to cover this before lunch);

Fatehpur Sikri - Taj Mahal - YEW - NOIDA (visit Taj after having lunch at Agra)

Shall start around 6:30 in the morning, Is the above route fine? Any helpful tips for a first time visitor will be appreciated.

YEW does not have many food / water / break options. So need to plan accordingly.
