I went in this route on Jan 26th weekend enroute to Madurai. Road conditions are good up to Dharapuram. Two things though:

1. As Kala has mentioned, Mysore - Nanjanagud - Chamaraja nagar is not good, we took this route will going, but decided to take T Narsipur route on return. Although T Narsipur route is longer by ~10 KMs, it's worth it.
2. As far as possible, avoid night driving (after 8:30 PM) between Bannari and KA border, because it is elephant corridor (we got stuck at Bannari for 30 mins) and maniacs in Bolero vegetable express who use the entire ghat road with scant respect for opposing traffic.

Guys bumping up an old thread. Planning to ride my bike to Kodaikanal from Mysore on March 12 for a nights stay. What is the best route and it's condition?

Second day, I am planning to ride to ooty before coming back to Mysore

My Suggestion: Nanjangud-Chamarajanagar-Satyamangalam-Annur-Karumathampatti-Sommanur-Palladam-Dharapuram-Palani-Kodai
