Road Condition Information

I seek your assistance...I will be going off to Karwar in the first week of October and would love to have road condition information on the following sectors:

Karwar - Gokarna - Yaana - Bhatkal - Sirsi

Gokarna - Badami - Aihole

Badami - Hampi

Hampi - Bangalore

Are there things I need to watch out for? I will be driving my Swift. What is the best route from Badami to Hampi? How bad or good are the road conditions once you get off the Golden Quadrilateral?

Thanks guys!

Hi Kirti Kumar

I went to Ankola in the first week of sepember 2008.
I went via Tumkur-Shimogga-Agumbe-Udupi (stayed for a day@ my parents place)-NH17-Bhatkal-Honnavar-Kumta-Ankola, while returning we came to Honnavar-Jog-Sagar-Shimogga-Tumkur-BLR

I would say road is mostly good, but not good in patches arround Tarikere-Kadur, between Shimogga onwards some 15KMs towards thirthahalli, Udupi-Kundapur, Byndoor-Bhatkal, Kumta-Ankola. While returning from Sagar onwards till Shimogga road is not good in patches. We left RT Nagar BLR@ 3:30 PM reached Udupi @ 11:30 at night (435KM non stop drive with a 35 minuetes for flat tyre near thirthhalli).
from Udipi to Ankola it took me 3.5 hours next day afternoon / evening time.

People also told me that Ankola-Karwar road is also not good.

i would recommend BLR-TUMKUR-SHIMOGGA-SAGAR-JOG-HONNAVAR-KUMTA-ANKOLA-KARWAR route. I took 10 hours Ankola To Bangalore with three breaks (20Minutes@ JOG, 45 minutes for lunch @ Sagar, and 30 minutes @ tiptur for evening snacks/coffee). We left Ankola @ 1045 AM and reach ed RT Nagar BLR by 8:45 PM.

in case you need any specific question, please let me know.

On 21 Sept I took:
Goa - Gokarna - Murudeswar - Udupi - Shimoga (night Halt)

On 22 Sept I took:
Shimoga - Chitrudurga - Penukonda - Kurnool - Hyderabad

The Road conditions were:
Goa - Ankola: is quite ok though you can see the impact of rain on the same.

Ankola - Gokarna: Almost like driving in moon. My wife and I thought we should have returned to Hyd directly via Hubli and Raichur by postponing the Gokarna, Murudeswar, Udupi trip to GOA.

Gokarna - Murudeswar: Kind of ok. As you get near to Mududeswar the roads improve a lot.

Murudeswar - Udupi: Till 30 kms before Udupi is is great. From outskrts of Udupi you are back to driving on moon.

Udupi - Shimoga: Left Udupi at 5:30pm and reached Shmoga 9:00pm. The roads were drivable.

I suggest not taking up GOA-Udupi unless it can't be avoided. I was in my scorpio.
