Any update from anyone on the Route between Ghoti to Aurangabad.
Is it work taking for Should I opt for Mumbai - Pune - Aurangabad Route ?

I am travelling from Thane so 320 kms to Aurangabad via Ghoti sounded very tempting to save almost 80 kms of drive.

On a sudden midnight plan to visit Mum- aurangabad I have this thread as a savior for me.

Planning to drive to Aurangabad on 25th December 2013.

Heard that during monsoons, Ghoti - Aurangabad road condition was very bad.
Any idea what is the current road condition of this route?

Why not the Pune/Nagar option? Any major difference between the two ? Because you would 4-lane till Nagar.

Thanks for suggestion!

Never been there on Ghoti - Aurangabad route. Thats why thinking to take this new route as I love to drive on different routes.

Kept Pune-Nagar route as an option rather I may prefer Malshej-Nagar (although did that route atleast 3 times) which is more scenic and faster than Pune-Nagar route.
Keeping all options ready.
Let's see. Even plan itself may get changed as per home ministry decision.
This time I am just a driver.

Hi sameervg,

So which route did you finally take and how was your trip. I am also planning a drive to Aurangabad from Mumbai and your feed-back on the route would be immensely useful to me and others planning such a trip.

Unfortunately whole trip cancelled due to some personal work. As per latest plan we may travel to Aurangabad during monsoon.

Regards,

Going to Aurangabad tomorrow.

Route considered is Thane - Nashik - Chandwad - Nandgaon - Aurangabad or Thane - Nashik - Niphad - Yeola - Aurangabad. .

Would Pune - Nagar be preferable? We are looking for the fastest route considering time, and and average speed of 60-65.

Any comments on good places to eat on the way would also be appreciated.

Pune Nagar any day is the better route but having said that, why do you want to go to Pune in the first place?

Thane-Khopoli-Wadgaon-Chakan-Shirur-Nagar-Aurangabad should be your route imo.

Oh Thanks. Is the SH30 road via Nashik in bad condition? Need to ensure a comfortable time for the occupants as well.
How is the condition of the route you have charted if I may ask?

A friend travelled in April and he advised that the Nasik-Aurangabad road is in terrible condition in patches.I dont know if they have been patched up now, though.

I recommend taking Mumbai Exp- Chakan- Nagar-Aurangabad route. You can consistently maintain the speed most part of journey (even more :) )

The nice hotels nearer to Nagar are smilestone ( vegetarian), Sandeep (both veg+non-veg)

I think the most optimum route (considering good roads, less distance, good speed, road conditions) from Mumbai to Aurangabad is pretty simple. I think the below is also the route taken by most overnight Volvo bus operators.

Start from Mumbai - take Pune expressway - take the leftmost lane on the 2nd toll plaza of Mum-Pun expressway (very important) - you automatically then leave Eway and go towards Talegaon - then Chakan - then automatically get connected on Pune Aurangabad 4 laned highway at Shikrapur - Ahmednagar - Aurangabad.

It's a pretty simple one with even lowest number of confusing turns. The only important one is to take the left most toll plaza lane a Talegaon toll plaza on Mumbai - Pune expressway as after paying the toll, a divider in front separates these 2 roads (one going towards Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur) and the one going towards Pune. 6 hours should be more than ideal.

Smile Stone hotel is the one that I remember plus there is a CCD that has come up 30 kms approx. ahead of Ahmednagar on the way towards Aurangabad.

I had occasion to travel to Aurangabad on the Holi day and I would opt for the Nashik route over Chakan - Nagar.

The travel to Nashik is fast and easy with good roads and less traffic. The interior roads were surprisingly good except a few kilometres near Vaijapur. Also there is sparse traffic on these roads.

Compared to that when we did travel by the Chakan route it took a lot of time due to traffic.

We travelled both ways using the same route. Up to Nashik, cross the flyover, first right turn and it joins the road towards Vaijapur, from there it is pretty straightforward.

Some parts around Vaijapur, near the connector to Shirdi, as well as the last 20 odd Kms near Aurangabad were a bit bad, probably due to monsoons.

Nothing that wont get fixed prior to the upcoming elections I hope. We owuld stick to this route next time as well.
