Bangalore to Leh

Hi all,

I and a Group of my friends have decided on a Roadtrip from bangalore to leh.
So some queries
1.When is the best time(we are planing it in june-09)
2.What route should be taken(we are planing BLR-HYD-Nagpur-Gwalior-New dehli-Leh)
3.Will returning can we follow a different route-please suggest
4.What all precautions should be followed

Vehicle is probably a Scorpio or any other SUV for that matter.

Experts your suggestions please.

Have already gone through the travelogue of LOCOMOTIVE so have a very faint idea what the terrain calls for.

Regards
Vamsi

Road is open from end-May to mid-Oct.
Your route is OK, except bad roads can be expected between Laknadon (north of Nagpur) and Jhansi (south of Gwalior).
You can return via Mumbai: Delhi-Jaipur-Udaipur-Ahmedabad-Surat-Bombay-Pune-Kolhapur-Belgaum-Hubli-Bangalore
No special precautions, except for medication/ nutrition for high-altitude sickness.

Somewhere you have to start the travel. Do it before it is late.

Vamsi, your route is perfect. Go ahead.

Thanks hvkumar for the information.
What will be the Distance between Laknadon and Jhansi.

And also what will be the Total distance from bangalore to Leh,googled it and found that the distance is approx 2900kms is this right.

we did this trip in 2005 with M&M Bolero, Route taken= Blr-Hyd-Nagpur-Sagar-gwalior-delhi-manali-leh-srinagar-amritsar-delhi-hyd-blr, total 8000kms, 22days.
June - Sep is the best time
Best route - Blr-Mumbai-Vapi-Baroda-Abad-Udaipur-Jaipur-Gurgaon-panipat-Manali-leh-srinagar-jammu & back based on your plan.
While coming back if you have time then you drive thru punjab, rajasthan. or you can try srinagar-leh-manali-himachal-uttaranchal.
Since you are going all the way to north, plenty of options are available on route & places to see.

Few important things for this trip.
50ltr Jerry can for Diesel
Medicines for nausea, cold, etc, local guys use
rope-if you get stuck some where
tent - if you want to camp
lots of fluids
torch, lighters, match box,
Heavy woollen clothings
good camera, still & video both
SUV fan belt/puncher kit/head lamp spare
sun glasses/sun screen lotion
good map( preferebly Lonely planet)
etc.......
I think there is a seperate thread available for this

From Blr to lakhandon roads are OK but expect lot of construction work all along. From lakhandon to Agra it is very bad.
This Dec-jan we did Uttaranchal trip. While going we took mumbai-udaipur route & reached delhi in 42hrs(distance 2400kms). While coming back we took nagpur route & took 66hrs (distance-2100kms)
Best to take Mumbai route. it is safe & can drive fast.

Hi All,

A couple of friends & I are planning on a biking trip to leh from Bangalore. We are planning on going in the following route. URL inline:
Bengaluru, Karnataka to New Delhi, Delhi - Google Maps

It will be around 12,000 Km round trip.
The plan is to travel all September.

Any pointers?
1. Would it be feasible?
2. Can we cover the distance in a month's time?
3. Would it be wise to Fly to Delhi and then ride from there?

Appreciate all help...

Laknadon-Sagar-Lalitpur-Jhansi, 415 kms

Bangalore-Leh, via Hyderabad, Nagpur, Laknadon, Jhansi, Delhi, Ambala, Manali,
3,400 kms (your estimate is wrong)

1 Yes its feasible, but depends on which bikes are you talking about.

2 Yes, provided all of you are in your early twenties. Else fitness will be in issue.

3 If you can pull it off it will be an incredible feat, if you guys have the guts go all the way on two wheels. You won't forget it for the rest of your life.

May the force be with you.

Re: Bangalore to Leh

Hi All

Sharing an update from Bangalore to Manali and back. Hope this is useful for fellow drivers and riders.
I did this drive in last week of Feb to last week of March of 2022.
Car ecosport tdi 2018. Also places I have mentioned are good for food and restrooms for families.
Day1 Bangalore to Nagpur via Hyd.
Started at 0015 and reached Nagpur at 1900. 2 hours break at food pyramid 80 KM after Karnool. Excellent infrastructure from 0700 to 0900.
One refuel at BP just after Hyd ring road.
30 mins break at Cafe Coffee day 30 mins out of Hyd.
Road conditions all good except 30 km before and upto Nagpur.
Hotel Majestic Manor.
Day2 Nagpur to Jhansi via lakhnadon.
Started at 1100 reached 2000.
Patched roads near Nagpur super smooth in MP upto Jhansi.except near Sagar.
Lunch break in Narsinghpur (Dada Kripa
residency) tea break in midway treat (Malthone) after Sagar.
Hotel Sarovar Portico in Jhansi.
Day3 Jhansi to Chandigarh
Only bad patch was Gwalior bypass.
Remember to ensure to take the EEP and not get into Delhi.
Lunch on Agra expressway, tea at Murthal.
Stayed with family in Chandigarh.

Next week drove to Manali
Good roads from Chandigarh till Punjab/HP border horrible two lane until Mandi. Worse from Mandi to Ait (can break a car if you do not slow down to 20 kmph)
Ait to Manali 4 lane and smooth.
Breakfast in Chotu Dhabha food ok poor restrooms.
No Lunch. Tea with Maggi at Ait overlooking Beas river.
Stayed at Gezellig Inn.

Return
Same route from Manali to Chandigarh, Google suggests to take another route to Mandi from Bhunthar but locals advised to avoid as it is a very narrow road and if another car comes you may have to back up long distances.
Lunch at airport inn in Bhuntar recommended.
Dinner at Haveli after Rupnagar just after the toll plaza.
Chandigarh to Agra same route same break points.
Visited Taj Mahal.
Went to Lucknow to visit family.
Lucknow to Indore
Good roads all through special mention from Guna to Indore are very good.
Lunch at Kundan Dhabha 15 KM before Jhansi very good food and restrooms however no AC. Tea at Midway retreat in Guna not recommended for anything.
Stayed at Sayaji enrise Indore. Advantage next day morning you can exit Indore fast.
Day 2
Indore to Pune via Nashik.
Good roads only until Dhule.
All poor and patched up roads in Maharashtra.
Will not mention Blore to Pune as it has a separate thread already.
Caio.
