CBE to CHENNAI to PONDY

Folks

We have decided to Chennai by road next week. And from there to Pondy. What should be the route to take (esp after the rains!)

Did cbe to chennai, thru krishnagiri, but this was before rains. 7 hours on trot.

Roads from thopur ghat upto krishnagiri are pretty good and 4 laning is complete in this section. Dharmapuri and kaveripatinam has been bypassed.

Has it Gkrishn? What is the new alignment? I was always under the impression that they were basically widening the existing highway .

@kb100 The 4 laning involved byepass for these towns just like how Vaniyambadi got byepassed in the Krishnagiri - Chennai section. What you could do is take the following route.

Coimbatore - Gobi - Athani - Andhiyur - Mettur - Thoppur - Dharmapuri - Krishnagiri and then onto Chennai or alternativley do Coimbatore Mettur via Avinashi & Bhavani.

Chennai to Pondy is via the ECR or East Coast Road. Nice two lane road, is a bit winding after Mahabalipuram in certain sections. Avoid night driving if possible due to certain blind turns.

i wouldn't recommend the ECR for chennai to pondy (many turns, seen too many accidents, especially in nights). chennai - tindivanam - pondy is much better(4 lane road).

I didn't get that.

Basically, the four lane they have done is such that, you blink and you will miss both these towns. Also, after getting on to thopur ghat section, till you reach krishnagiri, there is pretty much nothing on the road for food. I usually take a snack break at darmapuri, and was left hungry for more time than i anticipated.

It looks like by 2010, TN might become the best connected state in india, by the looks of the amount of four lan(e)ing they are doing all over the state.

Alignment.. that is the technical term for the route that the road takes. (I think...lol)

So after Krishnagiri are there any good places to eat?

There is Tamilnadu hotel on the right side of the chennai road just after Krishanagiri and Deepam Motel Inn just after the Pallikonda toll.
