Pune-Goa(24th Jan) Is it safe to travel via the border(MH-Ka) town of Nipani

Hi All,

I needed a favor from you all.

Ill be traveling to goa this Saturday i.e. 24th Jan. My plan is start early say at about 3AM.

Due to the tension at Karnataka-Maharashtra border (Source: Boundary row rages again-Bangalore-Cities-The Times of India) I am trying to avoid border towns like Nipani.

So after doing a lot of search I have decided on the following route:-

1. Pune-Kolahpur via NH-4
2. Kolahpur-Kankavli via SH-116
3. Kankavli-Goa via NH-17

I plan to take the same route while coming back.
If you have any idea or inputs about the route can you share it with me.
Just let me know if the idea seems fine.

We just did Goa 10 days ago. I'm told the condition of the road near Azra is terrible. We did the Kolhapur-gagan bavda-Talere-Kankavli-Goa route. Nice roads. Maybe 5 kms of bad roads in all and they were being fixed.
So it's better if you take the same route. We did it in 7 hrs drive time Kothrud-Baga.

Hi,

We drove from Panaji in a Gypsy on the 10th. Sawantwadi-Amboli-Ajra- to join up NH4 at Sankeshwar. Glad we didn't do it the other way , because getting on to the smaller state roads after the silky NH4 might bring out the tears

But seriously, fair enough roads, the ghat section is lovely (and lonely) we drove when the trasnporters strike was on.

Have one for us!

Leaving for goa on 23rd, but I might have to go to Hubli/ Dharwad while going to or coming back from goa.
Members from Hubli - any updates on the conditions regd. the border dispute there ? How bad is it for private vehicles ??

ya even i was having the same doubt. Is it safe for private vehicles to travel that side? anyone having any info?
