Hi,

Does anyone have the route status from Chennai to Gangaikonda cholapuram? What is the road conditions of the following routes?

1. Cuddalore, Bhuvanagiri, Sethiathope and Gangaikonda cholapuram.
2. Villupuram, Panruti, Sethiathope and Gangai konda cholapuram.

Mapmyindia gives a route via Vridhachalam - however I need to go to Pondicherry too -

So what are your suggestions?

We did this trip a few days back. We took route 1

and it was excellent , except for a brief streach near bhuvanagiri and sethiatoppu. After staying over in Pondy, the drive to GKC took 2.5 hrs with stops.

GKC to Kumbakonam was also enjoyable. We further went to Mayiladuthurai and finally to Tranquebar. The roads were not bad at all, infact we loved the scenery on these state highways.

Returning back, we took Tranquebar - Sirkazhi - Chidambaram - Cuddalore - Pondy -Chennai. Roads 10kms before Sirkzahi and nearly all the way to Chidambaram was rough and hardly enough room for 2 cars to pass by.

I took the route from Chennai - Tindivanam - Vikravandi - Panruti - Sethiathope and Gangaikondacholapuram

Road between Panruti and Sethiathope is not that good.

Rest of the journey was pleasant.
