Visiting India

I'm coming over to Bangalore from the UK at the end of this month. It is my first visit to India and I'm really looking forward to it.

I'll be visiting the Reva factory whilst in Bangalore - I drive a Reva (G-Wiz) and run the Reva Car Club, so it will be great to see the factory and meet the people.

I'm also hoping to see some of the other Indian cars during my trip and find out more about the Indian Car Scene, as well as doing some sight seeing around Bangalore.

Is there anyone on these forums from around Bangalore, who can give me some pointer as to what I should see whilst I'm in the area?

Glad to see a Reva fan abroad and see a fan following in another country. Reva are not very easy to be spotted on Indian roads ( read not very successful ) because of well known reasons, mainly the capital cost involved.

Would love to hear more about Reva and may be a review from your side.

Hi!! Welcome to Bangalore. I have been to Bangalore 3 times. Once was in 1994, when it was a sleepy city. Malleswaram and RT nagar were remote suburbs then (heh!! B'loreans, what do you think of those places now?). Next visits were in 2005 and 2006, and the traffic was a shocker.

If it was shock for me, I am wondering what you will think of B'lore traffic now.

I have seen quite a few revas in B'lore last time I was there. None so far in Kerala / Cochin where I live so far.

There is a surplus of members from blore on this forum. I have not been there in years, but some one should be by shortly to help you out.
Let us know if you're visiting Kerala/cochin

Welcome to Bangalore and T-BHP Mike!
Glad to hear that you are a Reva fan.

We have a good number of members from Bangalore here, so if you could tell a bit more about what you like to see, we would be glad to help you out. There are some good places you should see not just in Bangalore but nearby as well. Mysore is around 150 KMs away, and is a good historic place, which you shouldn't miss.

There are some package city tours in Bangalore as well which you can try.

Hope you enjoy your visit here!

Thanks for the responses. I'm hoping to see some other Indian cars as well, like the Tata V3 (currently not available in the UK, but likely to arrive sometime in the next couple of years) and the Rhino Rover.

I'm guessing that the chances of seeing a Nano is probably next to zero...

I have been told I will be able to take a video camera into the Reva factory with me (subject to certain conditions), and I'm hoping to put together a YouTube video about the Reva's and the factory whilst I am there.

I'll post up information when I've done that so that people can see it for themselves.

As for the review, as requested, I have posted one here: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/long-t...2006-reva.html

You must have visited Malleswaram in Kempegowda's time. Malleswaram was very much inside the city even in the 50s and 60s.

I am not sure about the car scene but I can vouch for the fact that there will be other members who can help answer your question.

Let me help you with the second part. To be honest, there isnt much to see in Bangalore, by way of sight seeing. But there are a heck of a lot things within 3-4 hours drive from the city.

So let us know if a trip out of bangalore is ok with you. I can then suggest some fabulous places to see. If you are a history buff, I am sure you wont regret going to these places which are around bangalore.

Well, if I'm travelling several thousand km to get to India, I'll be more than happy to travel for a few hours outside of Bangalore!

As for the lunch meeting, thank you very much for the invitation. Unfortunately I'll be in an aircraft and I guess I'll be somewhere over Southern Europe at around the time you're meeting up!

Apart from Cars and Reva if you want to touch a bit of Indian History then head towards Hampi(approx. 350km) and you may extend towards Aihole/Badami etc. Few other close by prominent historical places are Mysore (137km), Belur-Halebid(approx 200km) etc.
You may also visit the National Parks like Bandipur/Nagarhole(approx 230km) etc. If you wanna see the elephant bathing then head towards Dubare (approx. 230km).
There are many more similar places around.
Anything specific in mind, please do post. We will try to answer.
Regards,
Kaushik

Why not visit Pondicherry/Mahabalipuram? Both are relatively closer to Bangalore and can be done on the same trip. Mahabalipuram, probably is the sculpting capital of the world. Pondicherry is a little place with a major french influence.

Hampi is a beautiful place as well, however the drive might be a little tiring.

Belur-Halebid is a must visit. Dont go back without seeing these two beautiful towns and its various temples. The Hassan Ashok is a great place for overnight stay while visiting these places.

Other than that, in my opinion, waynad should be an option. Its the closest part of kerala from Bangalore. After all, you dont want to miss the chance of seeing the very famous "God's own country", do you? :-)
